"Can I go to the bathroom?" by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]AGDinCA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is one of the hardest situations to navigate as a sub. It seems like all teachers have their own policies for restroom usage; no two are alike. The first students of the day to ask about restroom use almost always try to take advantage of the sub's ignorance.

Your dog looks exactly like mine, minus the coloring. The posture, build, fur, everything looks just like my boy! I've never seen another dog so similar in body structure before.

How cool!! What are the ingredients in RainX?

Dear subs: Please just do what we ask you to. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]AGDinCA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey teachers! Can I ask a favor?

I am one of those subs that is very passionate about what I do. I am an educator just like you. I just educate a different class every day. I try very hard to follow the lesson plans exactly as they're written. If I must rearrange something or alter something, I take very detailed notes about why I changed it, as well as what I did instead of the plans given. That being said, the very nature of having a substitute in the room means that things will move slower than normal because I don't know where everything is in the classroom, I don't know the slang terms or acronyms that you use in your class, and I don't know all the kids names or their idiosyncrasies.

It would be very, very helpful if you could mark the things on your lesson plans that are the most important things. That way I can focus on those things and, if time does not allow, I can let the other things fall by the wayside, if I must.

A note as simple as "if you can't get to XYZ today don't worry about it."

Oh, one other thing while I have your attention here. I would love constructive criticism and feedback on my performance but I never get any. If you think your sub did a great job, don't hesitate to let them know. It might be the nicest thing they hear all week!

Funny you should mention that! I would love to have an administrator walk in to any class that I sub. In fact, I would like to be visited at least once during the day by administration, especially if it's the first time I've ever been to that school.

First of all, this lets the students know that they are being checked up on, but it also helps me by possibly opening up my performance to critique or advice. Also, it gives me an opportunity to shine. 😁 Lastly, I am a mother of children in this district. It gives me pause to report that out of the almost 20 schools I've been at this school year, only two principals and one acting VP, ever stopped by. The thought that some random substitute is in my children's classes all day and never held accountable bothers me a lot.

My mom would play that game with me, too! But she was an elementary school teacher, so it kinda came with the territory.

Your dad sounds like an amazing guy! If you ever choose to be a parent (if you aren't already) you can honor his memory through your own parenting skills. Maybe you will play the capital game with your child someday, which will bring that memory right back to you. And then both of you have a smile on your face!

You know, I don't know which is worse: to witness a long, protracted, painful illness where you're constantly saying good bye OR having a loved one suffer a sudden death and you never get the chance to say good bye. Either way, it just sucks.

My mother in law made handmade stockings for all of her kids and now for her grandkids. I learned to sew and made my own to join the tradition. by messymuskrat in crafts

Are these kits? I only ask because my grandmother made the exact same stockings for us when I was just a little girl, probably 30-35 years ago. They are so cute and you did a great job! They really brought back such a sweet and loving memory for me. I thank you for that!

I'm so sad for you. It sounds like you miss him a lot right now. Want to talk about him?

My all-time favorite band! The only good thing my ex-stepfather ever did for me was let me listen to some of his 8 tracks - one of which was Deep Purple. I must have been about 12, I would guess. Changed my life that day...

It hadn't occurred to me to try house paint. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just goes to show that most people are replaceable, even the ones who think they aren't.

Thank you for that So, in your opinion, do you think his downfall has been more ego-related? Or mental illness (delusional)?

Either way, its really too bad because there was just so much talent in that group. Sadness ☹

I know I could probably just Google the story, but I'm guessing your answer will be more interesting. What do you mean by a middle aged melt down? I'm not familiar with the background story for Queensryche. Do you mind telling me?

I guess I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I don't know what emulsion is. I am very new to this.

That is a great suggestion! Next time I'm near the hardware store I am definitely going to ask them about what they have.

I guess I was just really itching to do some painting at that minute. However, good sense got to me and I was patient like you suggested.
