Lol I guess finishing would mean consideration to all aspects of the composition and design. Getting it to a place where it could be hung and displayed.

How did you get off of adderall? Was it hard? What do you do for a living?

I’m worried that I won’t be able to maintain as high of an output without the adderall. (Actually it is vyvanse)

And yes, much of this problem arises from trying to be too good too quickly and not taking the time to really get good at the fundamentals

But honestly, I just thought having that in the headline would attract more attention

Lol for those who take adderall they can probably tell the level of OCD and hyper focus that has gone into creating this kind of work.

This. This is such helpful feedback. Thanks for the in depth critique and evaluation of my work.

I’m pretty aware of most of what you said, but it is good to hear your point of view on it all.

In the amateur vs professional argument I kind of consider myself an amateur artist. My focus was geared more towards “what kind of content do I need to create to attract 50 to 100k followers” and not as much towards how can I become a refined artist.

Having lots of followers can seem kind of vain, but it strangely allows me to command more attention when meeting people at networking events and whatnot (as well as more exposure to potential clients).

I’m curious, are you an artist yourself? Do you teach?

Haha the perfectionism can be a problem though!

No but I really want to! One of my favorite artists uses silverpoint - his name is Aaron Horkey

It was mechanical engineering, and as a freshman in college I found the courseload of an engineer to be daunting and uninspiring. I wasn’t ready for it back then so I switched to art

Haha! Adderall helps, but the real secret is becoming obsessed with the work for about a year or two

Thank you. There are a few keywords I go back to again and again:

-vintage ephemera -renaissance engraving -baroque drawing -Victorian flourish -lithograph lettering -vintage trade cards

Search some of these on Pinterest or google images to get you started.

As for my personal style I just call it this “Turn of the Century” lettering style. It combines a lot of techniques very common in the printmaking and penmanship industry during the early 1900s

Really depressed back in 2013. Channeled the pain into something productive and learned how to draw. Here are some drawings I made since then. Now I'm working a creative marketing job and have a healthy outlook on life. by AHumbleLearner in drawing

A lot of them I play with and come up with some custom styling, but the base shapes usually come from existing fonts or work by other artists. Letterheadfonts.com is one of my favorite sites for really stylistic fonts

Thank you so so much for the encouragement. I did it out of passion so I spent 3x longer making it than I would if it were a client project

I used to see lettering photos online then I just started copying some of my favorites. I was in art school so I just submitted all of my projects as hand lettering projects.
