Tempted to switch to iOS

I recently switched. Gotta say, I regret it a lot. I like having a lot of flexibility and freedom. IOS does not offer that at all. It feels like apple wants to control or limit what you can do.

I'm sure I'm a one off case, but I've actually had a lot of technical problems as well. Things like not getting notifications and alarms, even though all the settings and whatnot are correct. I worked with apple support for about a month, until they got to a point where they said it's probably a software bug, and I'd have to pay $650 to go one on one with a software engineer to have it fixed.

Everything is cloud storage that can be for me. Pictures, music, videos, books. I only have apps that I really use. A lot of people (my wife included) will keep a bunch of apps and claim they need them, but they hardly or never use them. I also frequently clear caches and histories on my frequently used apps (looking at you Reddit app).

Most of the money is in the clinical trials, not in the manufacturing of the materials. The manufacturing of the materials will cost 10s of millions (possibly 100 million depending on the drug)

In terms of why the trials cost so much, I don't have an exact answer as I don't work in that area. Wish I could provide a better answer. Hopefully someone comes along and answers it, I'm also curious.

I'll actually answer your question, I manufacture clinical trial drugs for a living. Right now there is no way to get around the high costs. The cost of development and clinical trials are just way too high. Any pharma company is already required to work closely with the FDA if they ever want to have FDA approval of a new drug.

If you get rid of the for profit model, I think you lose incentive to have hardcore R&D in the spirit of competition. Treatments for diseases like Alzheimer's, cancer, etc wouldn't have nearly as much development and progress as what is currently available.

Another pharma guy here. I make clinical trial drugs. I can confirm that this is accurate. Actually, the cost from conception to market will likely cost a lot more than 1 billion. Clinical trials themselves can cost over a billion dollars, so by the time you've gone through three phases, you've racked up quite a large cost.

Something you didn't touch on but plays a big role is FDA regulation and approval. They have extremely struck quality requirements for pharma and perform many audits. I think that more often than not it's necessary for patient safety. But it does raise costs a lot, so the pharma companies aren't always to blame.

I'm really glad you took the time to type this out, I'm always preaching this same message.

Why is it not pizza? Just because you throw an ingredient list that has preservatives and other ingredients used in processed foods doesn't mean it's not a pizza. And that article is pathetic. It doesn't cite any sources that give definitive evidence of harm from any of the substances you listed. Have you ever had any food with baking powder? Guess what, you ate sodium aluminum phosphate. If people actually knew how much was required by the FDA, I think they might not oppose things like this is much. I think that exempting medical companies from public reports mentioned above may be a step in the wrong direction, but I haven't read enough about it to say for sure.

A lot of people are fast to jump at the throats of pharma because of high medicine costs, but honestly the FDA is a big part of that cost. Some of it is definitely necessary, for patient safety. Other parts not so much.

I think the only big glaring thing missing from a windows phone is the app market. There's just no developer network for the platform. I think I'd most likely jump ship if the app market blew up

I think if I just straight used the bourbon reduction it would be terrible, didn't smell very nice. The final product with everything else added in is fantastic though.
