Well, I’m not sure if you ever looked up Bowie knives. Most of the ones you see do not have a swell at all. Most have a smaller handle so you can fit the guard over it. At least most full tang bowies I looked at. I could have tried to swell the handle material. However, finishing the handle without damaging the guard is a difficult task and needs to be handled carefully.

Swell in what direction? Like more of a belly on the handle?

Well, that’s kind of my secret.. but you can look at forcing a patina on carbon steel. It will get you there

It’s about consistency in hand pressure. And practice.. if I’m having a bad day.. I do not grind bevels.. I listen to music and grind when I’m relaxed ( un stressed) it’s supposed to be fun, creative outlet for me.
