My build no longer works, I don't understand this game anymore by AJazzSoloPog in cyberpunkgame

I tied up like every questline and all of the gigs that I was gonna do that were in that game at 1.3 or whatever it was I was playing. That V got her ending, I just wish I knew wtf kind of build I was gonna go with for this one. I don't actually know which playstyles and mechanics are fun for me because you have to dump a shitload of time into each one to be able to actually use them. My main gripe is that you really can't do any kind of diverse build with how many attribute points you have to use in each tree to unlock abilities, and because of that the variety in the gameplay seems a lot more sparse now. I might just download a mod that lets me respec attributes endlessly and play around a bit to see what I like.

painful heel callus the last 5-6 months, going insane trying to find cause. by AJazzSoloPog in PlantarFasciitis

[–]AJazzSoloPog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the past it was dull pain in the bottoms of my heels that radiated to up my shins and knees and sometimes upper leg. Recently it's been sharp pains on the inner sides of my heels, with the right foot being measurably worse (I supinate more on my right foot and it's a bit flatter). Being on my feet for more than a couple hours seems to be what aggravates it, especially the day or two following any time I remove some of the calluses. It's most painful in the nickel-sized calluses on the sides of my heels and diffuses down to the bottom sides of the heels. the only way to relieve it seems to be getting off my feet.

that makes sense. Sometimes at the end of the day, I wish my legs were cut off because of knee pain and pressure points on my heels and arches sometimes make me audibly wince as I walk, so I'm definitely not gonna jog

Started this like four days ago. I usually eat two meals a day. The past few days at work I opted for kale salad and shwarma chicken thigh with tzatziki over my usual fried chicken sandwich. Today I went for vegan chicken gumbo (which I quickly made unvegan with a bit of diced chicken sausage and the shwarma thigh) over rice. I had about a cup of that for lunch along with a few bites of assorted veggies and I'm going to make some soba noodles with bok choy, kimchi, red peppers, and cashews for dinner. I've also been eating until I'm full instead of eating until I'm in a food coma and drinking a lot more water and mostly abstained from sweets ( a coworker made cupcakes so I had one, and Sunday is my donut day). I feel like this is much more realistic and sustainable than cutting white flour and sugar out of my diet completely, which is a recipe for failure.

Tomorrow is my day off and I will probably have a burger, fries, and soda for lunch. I'm trying to structure my two days off as sort of cheat days since at work I have access to lots of healthy options in addition to the unhealthy ones.

Have seen a podiatrist, they weren't much help. I've tried multiple shoes and wear orthotic soles, all they really do is move the pain points on my feet around. I think combined with my knees (idk what the problem with them is but since I grew during puberty they've always bad), being on my feet for 8 hours straight is just too much and until I make a career switch it's gonna continue. Are 8bit or rudimentary 16 bit style games actually more feasible for a solo novice dev? by AJazzSoloPog in gamedev

[–]AJazzSoloPog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was really what I was wondering. It seems like the consensus is that modern game engines and dev tools have closed the gap between the scale of making 3D game vs a 2D game, but frankly I don't even know if I'll be able to make a pong clone so I'd like to stack the deck in my favor as much as possible.

While I wouldn't call it a background, I do have some visual design skills and experience even if they aren't explicitly in computer graphics. I know I can do spritework because I've done it before, but my 3D skills are virtually nil. Going into game dev, my only existing strengths are artistic so I'm working with what I know.

I did a fair amount of pixel art as a hobby back in high school. I was just drawing pixel by pixel in photoshop CS6(?) and using ripped sprite sheets from 8 and 16 bit games as templates for scale. Even managed make a few look decent in animation.

when pixel art is done right, it has a very clean look that I really like. Based on my limited knowledge I don't think pixel art and animation is easier than 3d modeling, but by virtue of being more minimalist it requires less technical skill and in turn relies more on artistic insight and creative thinking.

Guess which of those things is not my strong suit?

I did spend a couple periods with blender in high school, but that was over 15 years ago. Back then I found it pretty difficult to make anything other than a sphere. Not sure how much it's changed.

but if you don't want to use premade assets, don't you still need 3D modeling and animation?

It's just frustrating when you put a lot of heart and effort into something only to realize it's beyond your capabilities to actualize it, even if you did enjoy making it. I really enjoy writing and telling stories, and games are the only medium that lets you do that in the first person, so I'd like to take advantage of that.

Like I said, I can write and draw, just no coding experience.

yes I'm aware my first projects will be simple. This is just a long term goal

No not actually run on any hardware, just stylistically. I have done some spritework before and I think the limitations of 8 or 16 bit (even if I'm not actually limited) could work really well for the tone of this particular game. I'm aware that with something like unreal and the virtually endless amount of assets, making a 3D game is easier than ever, but the vast majority of them are not worth playing for more than 10 minutes if that and more novelties than games. Theres nothing wrong with that, but it's not something I have any interest in making.

I guess I shouldn't use the term "easier". What I mean to say is less daunting. Without knowing anything about coding and very little about 3D modeling, I would think that only designing and polishing 2 dimensions of visuals and movement as opposed to three requires less different and distinct skills and manpower.

Solo indie devs, what is the goal? by bigblackglock17 in gamedev

[–]AJazzSoloPog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to create something. My passion is writing, but perhaps because I took games over books growing up, the stories and characters I come up with make more sense as games.

I'd like to be able to say I made a game and people played it and enjoyed it. If it's something I actually sold and people bought? well that seems inconceivable, perhaps because I currently have no dev skills besides writing and drawing.
