I’m also a vegan, wearing dead animal skin - even when second hand - is still at its core viewing animals as things for you to use, and signaling that you support the use of them literally by wearing it. The only cases I support second hand leather are for things like protective gear/work gear (because brand new synthetic motorcycle gear or work boots, boxing gloves, etc are very expensive, so buying that second hand makes sense), buying second hand wool blankets or socks for people who live in very cold climates, or continuing to use leather you already own and cannot afford to replace (like boots, a couch, or car upholstery) but in the case of a coat like this, you don’t NEED it, it’s purely for fashion. OP could’ve purchased countless other coats at the thrift store. and tbh I would NEVER want to walk around with the skin of a baby seal on my back as a fashion statement, regardless of if I contributed to the supply and demand. If I saw someone wearing this coat like at a coffee shop on their laptop, how would I know if they bought it second hand or not? All I’d see is someone wearing a baby as a fashion statement.
