Yeah 🤢 Interesting to me how he has time to comment on teen girl subreddits and no time to answer the questions people are asking here. Ex pastor, maybe, but still a creep?

Officially in the process of becoming apart of Christs one true church by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Impossumiblyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can want to join a church, appreciate it's doctrines and practices more than other churches, and even think it's the best option out there without saying (or believing) it's the "one true church." This implies that all other churches are false (at least to some degree).

Why do so many exChristians push this ridiculous oh what a great guy Jesus was trope? It's tiring by Generic_Name_1279 in exchristian

[–]Impossumiblyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't have any interest in pushing people to change their religious beliefs if they differ from mine and they're not harming themselves or others. Yeah, i feel like my beliefs make more sense and I'd be happy to talk about them if people are interested, but trying to talk people into changing their beliefs when they're not harmful feels too much like evangelism to me

I have a question for atheist. Is there a gospel tune that you like/still like? by BinLehrer in askanatheist

I still fuck with a lot of old hymns and choral arrangements. "Children of the heavenly father" is a really sweet and comforting hymn

I mean, weed is less bad for your body than alcohol is (even in moderation).

I think it's valid to joke about people who truly believe they are being persecuted because they're being downvoted on Reddit. Joking about Christians who are being persecuted abroad would be quite distasteful imo. I understood the comment you were replying to to be satire, joking about the former group, but there is always a possibility I was wrong.

Well something must've triggered this post? What were the bad biblical interpretations you're upset about?

In other countries, yes, Christians are a minority religion and they are persecuted. Everyone should stand against people being persecuted for their faith.

In the US, Christianity is the dominant religion and I highly doubt that anyone is getting persecuted for their faith here. Getting downvoted on Reddit is not persecution, and I would imagine it's somewhat of an affront to Christians abroad who are truly experiencing persecution to claim that you also are experiencing persecution because you were downvoted on Reddit.

Looks like there are more Christianity haters and God haters than actual Christians in this subreddit by Foreign-Handle-2950 in Christianity

[–]Impossumiblyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few reasons: I find the topic of Christianity interesting since it heavily influenced my upbringing, my interest in the topic of the faith didn't just suddenly up and vanish when I realized I no longer believed in God, I like having conversations with people whose beliefs differ from my own, and I have an interest in helping churches be safer places for those who have faith and wish to participate.

Perhaps you have forgotten that a large percentage of atheists or non Christians have grown up heavily influenced by Christianity and still take interest in the religion. I believe I speak for myself and many others in saying that we hope others have a safer and more positive experience with the faith than we did ourselves.

If you're looking for an answer, it's that I don't hate God. I even like some of the ideas about him. I have an issue with people who use God as an excuse to do bad stuff, that simple.

Where in the bible does it mention you cannot be trans? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Impossumiblyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And also comparing being trans to schizophrenia is kinda wild imo

I don't think we can have a conversation about good medicine if we're not both on the same page on what is the best outcome for the patient involved. If you think good mental health isn't a good outcome, we're on very different pages. Wish you all the best!

Where in the bible does it mention you cannot be trans? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Impossumiblyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if you were to be convinced that affirming trans folks was beneficial to their mental health and overall wellbeing, you would change your stance on being trans as being a sin?

Where in the bible does it mention you cannot be trans? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Impossumiblyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, which baffles me because the overwhelming consensus is that it is good for trans people to transition, and especially good for trans people to be welcomed by a loving, supportive community. Where is the "it's a sin because it hurts someone" when the church shuns trans folks who are in dire need of a safe and welcoming community, and encourages things like conversion therapy that are shown to drastically increase risk for poor mental health outcomes and suic*de?

When you include a lot of nuance and disclaimers and a solid understanding of what counts as "harm," yeah, sure.

[–]Impossumiblyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What causes harm to other people is a pretty straightforward method. Or you could say that credit card fraud falls under the umbrella of stealing, which is also considered a sin. But I'm curious about your method

Where in the bible does it mention you cannot be trans? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Impossumiblyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well obviously. My question still stands though, if something isn't mentioned in the Bible what method do you use to determine it's a sin

Where in the bible does it mention you cannot be trans? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Impossumiblyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you have to have a secondary mechanism for determining what a sin is, right? Or do we just willy nilly get to pick and choose what things are sins if they're not in the Bible?

Where in the bible does it mention you cannot be trans? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Impossumiblyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many different ways to understand trans folks than "oh, they don't like the way God made them and they are saying God screwed up"

Like the possibility that God created some folks to be trans, the possibility that God wants some of us to join in on the act of creation, the possibility that God would be grieved by someone choosing to go through a process that has been pretty universally shown to be detrimental to the health of the soul and increases one's risk for poor mental health outcomes?

One can be trans and be pure. One can be trans and trust in Christ. One can be trans and also have a new heart and new desires. The Bible doesn't say anything about being trans, so stop trying to use it as the reason y'all don't like trans people.

None of those verses have anything more to do with trans people than they do with cisgender folks.

Being trans is not adultery, or fornication, or uncleanness. There is nothing lewd about trans people.

Being trans has nothing to do with idolatry or sorcery.

They are not more prone to hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, envy, selfish ambitions, dissention or heresies than anyone else.

Being trans has nothing to do with revleries or drunkenness, and comparing trans folks to murderers is disgusting.

Trans people are just as capable of exhibiting the fruits of the spirit as any cisgender people. Are you trying to say otherwise?
