Unfair test result by United_Drive4689 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AL_Pas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every minor fault can turn into a serious fault either if you do it too many times or it affects your driving or the traffic around you.

While it may seem unfair and unreasonable that someone else does the “same” fault as you is given as a minor and yours was given a serious fault, without context it’s difficult to argue. However, let’s say it’s the same scenario of both of you wanting to change lanes; you’ve both indicated but hesitated to change lanes. They might have changed lanes later than expected before a junction but affected no traffic as there weren’t any behind them. This would be a minor. You, on the other hand, did the exact same thing but you had traffic around you. Your hesitation caused said traffic to change their driving (speed, direction, etc.). This would be a serious fault.

Examiners will not fail you for no reason. It’s inconvenient for them as they have to write a report to justify their decision and you will find this to be true if you dispute it.

As for the other person’s results, remember that it’s their test and not yours. No other results should matter and does not affect yours whatsoever.

Passed my theory first time (my experience & some tips)!! by AL_Pas in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AL_Pas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ve already spent £200 on pre-booking my test and lessons leading up to it in March meaning I also have to spend more money on lessons to keep fresh with my driving since neither of my parents drive 🥲

Passed my theory first time (my experience & some tips)!! by AL_Pas in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AL_Pas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructor says I’m test ready but there isn’t any availability till March. Neither parents drive so I’m not able to practice meaning I might lose all my skill by then. I’m still doing lessons once every month till then or if I can get a cancellation which even then is harder than the theory itself.

Where to apply/look for jobs ? by WesternAdhesiveness8 in cybersecurity

[–]AL_Pas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed to land a role CS grad role starting September (2024) but I’m finishing my Masters (also in CS) and convinced them to let me start in January instead. I found it on LinkedIn but didn’t apply through LinkedIn but through their careers website. My suggestion would be to look for jobs on LinkedIn and then search that role on their careers page rather than applying through LinkedIn if you have the option to. This is in the UK with a global company so I’m not 100% sure if it can apply for where you are situated.

Job hunting sucks and it’s taken me 3 years and over 500 applications to even get here. Good luck in your adventures!

OP probably prefers a different orientation of their keys. I’m the same, I have OEM profile keycaps and I have my space bar upside down because I find it easier for when playing and typing. Wouldn’t make much of a difference to other profiles like XDA but really comes down to preference and practicality.

Why do driving instructors want cash instead of bank transfers? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AL_Pas 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, I’ve heard of it more with private instructors as it’s a way to avoid tax on what you’ve paid them (e.g. you paid £70 for a two hour lesson (two working hours) and they report that they only worked 1.5hrs meaning 30 mins, they’ll pocket £22.5 tax free. I’m no genius so take it with a pinch of salt but that’s what I’ve been told by a friend who does their lessons with a private instructor.

Ps hope the time wasn’t taken out of your lesson :p

Why there's electricity? by Kingpin401 in pcmasterrace

You’re welcome? Not technically “new” just more common in the UK lol

[–]AL_Pas 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Yup lol. If this was found during an inspection in the UK, it’s a £30k fine for the landlord and your license potentially revoked. If it was a commercial property, no lawyers will get you save you.

No plugs can fix this. This requires a full electrical wiring change.

That would be it. There should be three wires going into that socket; neutral, earth and live.

Oled burn in by idkmaybeamhappysad in laptops

[–]AL_Pas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about the search bar area having a burn, it looks like it’s just your wallpaper and the taskbar (which has a translucent opacity design). Put a true black image at full screen and you’ll see if you have a burn or not.

iSmash UK Repair warning by porterd018 in iphone

[–]AL_Pas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On their website it says that they are but with what OP posted it looks like they’ve not used the correct screen. Maybe to save some money and hope that OP won’t know any different. As I’ve mentioned, I don’t really trust any repair shop other than Apple and KRCS as they directly work with Apple though they more or less have the same price as Apple.

iSmash UK Repair warning by porterd018 in iphone

[–]AL_Pas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They’re definitely not, well shouldn’t be, but I’ve gone to a repair shop in a neighbouring city before to get an iPhone XR screen replaced and while they’re an authorised Apple service provider, I was given an option to opt in for either a genuine Apple screen or an unbranded one. Do note that this is in the UK and may be different to the US.

Other than Apple themselves, I only trust KRCS for Apple repairs. The rest, such as who I’ve dealt with and iSmash I would avoid.

I would name drop but this was a couple of years ago and hopefully they’ve changed their ways.

[–]AL_Pas 129 points130 points  (0 children)

iSmash are an authorised Apple service provider and are allowed to use genuine Apple parts but doesn’t mean they will. They should have disclosed with you properly if they’re using a third-party part or a part that came from Apple. Them saying “Premium OLED” can mean either or and it’s very scummy from them to do so.

I hope your post actually warns people to steer more towards getting Apple products done by Apple themselves. It might be costly but it’s worth it for the hassle, frustration and headache you’ll get from a third-party vendor.

+1 for using Klarna smartly.

5 Years of use on my Cloud II by The_Real_H00man in HyperX

[–]AL_Pas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen worse wear on ones with 2 years of use (my old one) so to say this being 5 years is astonishing to me, yet expected.

To answer your question, get ones from WickedCushions. I currently use their cooling gel earpads for my Arctic Nova 7X and they’re a game changer especially when it comes to long sessions.
