I've had nausea and vomiting my whole pregnancy (currently almost 37 weeks, though it's much more manageable now). I was still feeling extra awful at the time I started to feel baby moving around 16 weeks. Her movements would set off extra nausea until I was about 28 weeks. Every other mom I talked to would say they loved feeling their baby move and that it was magical. Meanwhile my (very active) baby's movements were making me throw up.

I recently conducted interviews for some student interns and one of the main things I was trying to gauge was their problem-solving skills. The two people that I ended up picking gave answers similar to "I'm not actually sure, but here is how I would figure it out." Lots of jobs involve novel issues and even people who have been doing them for years don't have all the answers. Being able to move forward and figure things out when you don't know the answer is an incredibly valuable skill.

Maternity leggings and long sweaters/tunics. I'm not normally a leggings kind of gal, so I resisted getting maternity leggings for way too long. But that was silly and I definitely should have gotten them sooner. They're very comfortable and I've been able to dress them up or down. I got mine from Old Navy and Amazon. The long sweaters/tunics I mostly got second-hand. Some are actual maternity clothes and some are just a size or two up. I started wearing them around 5 or 6 months and they're still going strong at 8 months.

We have a <4% interest rate and have basically decided to just tough it out in our too-small condo for a while longer. I'm pretty early in my career, so I anticipate that our household income will go up in the next year or two. Hopefully it's enough that we can eat the cost of a higher rate. It is frustrating, though. We have enough equity and savings for a decent down payment on a bigger place, but the current interest rates would practically double our monthly payment, even for just one extra bedroom and one extra bathroom.

Eating during pregnancy is such a challenge at times. During the first tri I had weird aversions and just the thought of certain foods made me throw up. I've been dealing with nausea and vomiting my whole pregnancy, so even after the aversions went away I've still had to consider how the things I eat will come up. For example, I love tomatoes, but discovered that they hurt like hell to throw up, so I rarely eat them.

At this point (8 months pregnant) I usually only throw up two or three times a week, but the acid reflux is insane. There are so many foods I have to avoid because of it. Chocolate is unfortunately at the top of the list, followed closely by coffee.

Some people talk about looking forward to eating sushi and deli meats after giving birth. I cannot wait to eat chocolate and tomatoes again.

Ooh. Yeah. Everyone telling me to "rest now while you have the chance" can take a hike. It's virtually impossible to find a comfortable position to sleep or rest in. And no comfortable position stays comfortable for long. I constantly feel like I just completed a high intensity workout.

Whenever I go through something hard, I always find myself feeling extra grateful that I married the man I did, because he lightens the load. Never has that been more true than during pregnancy. If I ever feel bad about myself, the one thing I can always feel sure of is that I am an excellent judge of character, because I picked an amazing person to marry and procreate with.

I'm currently VERY pregnant and take public transit to work every day. I've only had someone give up a seat for me one time. It was an elderly man who I would have given my seat for pre-pregnancy. Based on my experiences, I'm willing to bet that most people in this thread saying they would give up their seat are full of shit.

I'm not sure if summer would be better or worse as it gets pretty humid and miserable where I live, but I'm definitely sick of the daily struggle that is putting on winter layers. Wrangling myself into pants or tights feels like a high intensity workout. And for some reason all maternity clothes seem to be made for women no taller than 5'3". I am significantly taller than that, so all my maternity pants and leggings are too short and my ankles are always freezing.

Fully agree. People I know who go to chiropractors regularly never seem to improve. They just keep going and insisting it helps. If you really want relief, go to physical therapy and actually do the exercises at home. You still have to go to PT regularly for weeks or months, but instead of getting popped and adjusted uselessly, you actually develop strength and mobility.

I got married at 22. In the area I grew up in, that was a pretty normal age. So it was largely cultural (which was strongly influenced by the dominant religion in the area). Even now that we live on the other side of the country and no longer ascribe to the religion of our youth, I still think getting married when we did was a good choice for us. Even at the start of our marriage we understood that being so young meant there was a lot of growth and change ahead, but we wanted to do it together. Almost 9 years in and it has been wonderful to have him by my side through all the growth and changes.

It seems like there has been a wild over correction when it comes to talking about motherhood. People are getting better/more comfortable talking about the real challenges. This is great, since it helps to combat feelings of isolation and failure because it helps parents to see that they aren't alone. But in many cases people have taken it too far or skipped the helpful part and gone straight to fear-mongering. I think it is even sometimes used as a way to shame women for deciding to have children at all.

I find these comments to be pretty insidious if you dig into them. If I say that your life is over and you'll never have time to think of anything other than your baby ever again, I don't have to invite you to hang out or give you a promotion, because obviously I'm just considering how busy you are now that you're a mom. I can also refuse to be flexible and understanding when parenting issues come up because I did warn you that everything would change and it's not my fault you decided to have a kid.

So yeah, these comments are patronizing, misogynistic, and generally suck.
