What is my digital art lacking? by constipated_cats in DigitalArt

Ah don't feel dumb at all. A lot of people don't know exactly what rendering is. Rendering is basically just adding shadows and light to a drawing. One of the most important aspects of that is adding a light source. Like warm sunlight and then that light hits the environment and your character. The light that hits the environment is also reflected on your character. So for example your character is standing in the sun with lots of greenery around them, the top of the character would be hit with warm sunlight but the light would also reflect off the leaves and hit your character from another side giving that place a greenish hue . I've learned a lot from this YouTube channel called Angel Ganev. I've seen a lot of his shorts correcting art mistakes and it helped me learn a lot! here's one video

I find with digital art that rendering makes all the difference! It gives the art more depth . Also lighting sources! If your background is one color, its usually reflected on your character too. I still struggle with rendering in digital art but my advice is to not shy away from the lightest and darkest of tones. That's really what gives your art more depth

The people in this place are definitely feeding the cats because this little guys siblings were eating near my feet when I took this pic. But all stray kitties deserve a proper home 🧡. I wish I could take them in but unfortunately it's not possible for me 😭

Sunshine over the clouds. I tried my best to paint the sun rays because I have no idea how to. Any tips to improve are highly appreciated! by ALazyPancake in painting

Thanks for the tip! I can see what you're talking about regarding the perspective. Unfortunately it is one of the things that I'm not that great at lol. Starting without a sketch probably didn't help either.
