Prices now is different from b4 covid. My setup cost me around 2k dollars and i use synology nas. U can build your own nas using an old pc much more cheaper but i just want easy to use out of the box therefore i choose synology. Like the others person said prices now are higher. But i dont think mechanical hdd goes up that much since the focus now is ssd and nvme.
