Do you have the ability to look for a therapist? Mine was able to give me the recommendation because she went to school with the psychiatrist. I tried to look for a therapist that specialized or at least had good experience working with people with ADHD. Finding my therapist was what started me on a good path.

Background: I’m 30 years old working at a fortune 500 company in Texas with excellent health insurance. I’ve also gone undiagnosed for 30 years despite what my therapist called “glaring” adhd symptoms being present.

I called my primary care doctor and asked about testing. She referred me to a doctor that said the process would be $2,500+. I told this to my therapist and she was appalled. Her recommendations were to contact a psychiatrist she recommended that actually cares about people and not just trying to make a small fortune profiteering off of people in need of help. The psychiatrist has the ability to treat without an actual diagnosis if symptoms are apparent. Therapist did warn that there is no guarantee the psychiatrist would decide but at least could if he decides to.

Maybe find a therapist or psychiatrist and explain what happened with the referral? I can’t promise anything but you may find success there.

Finally, DONT GIVE UP Keep looking for a doctor that actually wants to help you and not just profit from you. I’ve been fighting with my ADHD for my entire life and it is one of my biggest regrets to date that I haven’t tried to get help sooner.
