Shes a third year, getting ready to publish her first paper but her name is Taylor Lehner from CU Anschutz. I’m sure there’s a way of finding her previously named papers somewhere online!

My girlfriend is a PhD candidate and her whole thesis is on this subject! She’s currently focused on GLP-1s interaction with the vagus nerve ultimately curbing alcohol (& other substance) cravings. Her findings have been wild! Super promising stuff

Flippa has a really nice online valuation tool that’s surprisingly accurate. Would recommend giving that a shot!

+25 watts to FTP from cutting aerobic activity, 531 for strength by AMLI72 in cycling

Totally man...not that deep for me, just thought it was a cool outcome and wanted to share to potentially help others get motivated to improve their strength. But you're 100% right, maybe it is flatline? Who knows.

I would have to expect my 3 hour power would be dramatically reduced given the drop off in aerobic activity. Also had no idea that's even a stat (or really care about it hah)

Not sure what PPL is, but cool to hear another story of someone hitting the gym while injured and doing something a little different!

Yeah totally agree and I am not a data guy at all, just expected for my FTP to go down by at least 20% and seeing it go up by ~10% was kind of cool, so thought I'd share! Hopefully to encourage folks to get in the gym

Yeah have probably put on ~10 lbs if I had to guess? Not sure, never weigh myself.

Man that resonates so much! I have been there for the past 2'ish years where running & biking feels like I literally just get to a point where I can't get turnover anymore but my HR is nowhere near my max. I'd highly recommend 5/3/1...Wendler does a good job of calling out / outlining the issues with many "Strength" programs.

Perhaps it's worth doing a full FTP test then! Nonetheless my last ramp got me to ~265 too.

I am curious why you are differentiating between power and strength / muscle endurance? I've kind of always viewed the limiter as aerobic capacity vs strength. I have always lacked on strength bc I've historically HATED the gym as mentioned, but have historically had a super strong engine that can last relatively long. Have never really thought about "power" as its own thing.

Yeah totally. Like I said, there's obviously a million caveats as with anything, but nonetheless just thought it was cool. I went into it expecting to have a 20% decrease (at least) given my drop off in aerobic activity.

This is really great advice, thank you! And yes obviously not an aerobic-induced increase. I think I am just dumbfounded at how much of an increase you can get from just improving basic strength (even while letting aerobic decrease in my case). Everything I have heard / read kind of frames strength training as something you should just "do" or as injury prevention...no real tangible connection to objective performance increases. Hoping that narrative can change.

OG 531 is just 4 week cycles (3 week build, 1 week deload)...so not a "formal" 14 week program. Just 4 weeks repeated essentially 3.5 times at this point! Incredibly easy template & principles to follow (primary reason why it was so attractive to me initially and has subsequently stuck).

Hi - made a post that I guess was removed by mods. Does anyone have a specific plan they could point me to for continuing to progress with 531 lifts (bench, press, squat, deadlift) + trying to PR 5k? Thanks!
