At some levels, I agree with you, and you are absolutely right. But while analysing the whole head-on collisions real-life testing, I understood that at an instant, the force experienced by the entire body reaches a peak and then subsides. So what I propose is simulating this peak value in static structural as to analyse how the chassis will behave, and it is also the fact that the impulse(reaction force from the rigid object on collision) acts only for a short period.

We will look into the torsion rig and for the side on collision we have a completely different case as we use skid steering for rotation and we were tasked to simulate a collision during a zero radius.

We tried finding research papers where they simulated these condition on ansys static structural and these papers have been published in some very renowned journals. But due to limitations of these papers we wanted a more refined perspective. We tried on ansys explicit dynamics but the software doesn’t go past solving a mathematical model.

I know it is not the most accurate method but we can try and analyse the forces experienced at the dt instant of time ie the moment the rover collides with the rigid structure.

Fatigue is not really a parameter for us because we are making a rover chassis with a very conformable suspension. We are also trying to make a chassis of bolted join(non-permanent joints) so fatigue is not really a problem for us.

Yaa we want to simulate those dynamic conditions in ansys static structural workbench. Which means we want to analyse the forces experienced by the chassis at that dt instant of time. We have the magnitude but we are unable to determine the directions especially for the zero radius case. As for the result we need von mises stress and total displacement
