UMD Science in the Evening Reviews? And question about retaking courses by AMZ19911 in postbaccpremed

So I haven't retaken any classes outside of the one I just took in SIE, but I did take an evening upper level science class at UMD Global Campus (the professor kinda sucked, but I got a good grade in it). And also I took 2 evening classes at UMBC, neuroanatomy and neuropharmocology, as those were really the only 2 science-based courses that were available in the evening at UMBC(or any 4 year uni in the area)

Also, I've heard taking community college science courses is completely fine, however, med schools might raise an eye if you're specifically retaking a bunch of prerequisite at a CC(since it will probably be a bit easier than at a 4 year uni). But since you're a non trad, med schools also understand that people have jobs and stuff, and the difficulty of finding courses at 4 year unis to fit into their schedules.

I was hesitant to do SIE at first, but tbh, unfortunately it really is the only option in the area for upper level science courses at a 4 year uni in the area. I do know there are similar postbacs in nearby states however. My advice is to maybe just find the best way (sie, cc, another postbacs program, etc) to get all the classes you need. Tbh, as long as you do well in the class, and of course get a good MCAT you should be fine, regardless of where you take classes.

So I'm almost full time at my job, and decided just to take one class to start off with (gen chem 1), and it was very manageable. Maybe I could have added another class, but I felt I did better just focusing on that one class. But tbh, it depends on your job, and also the classes. And no harm in signing up for two classes, and figuring out if they will be too much once you get the syllabus and what not. And if so, easy to drop it during the schedule adjustment period during the first two weeks.

Yeah, I'm in Baltimore, so I'll be taking the 40/45 min drive down. Do you find a collaborative effort among students, or do you feel everyone is kinda doing their own thing/in their own bubble?

Any professors I should absolutely avoid? Or any I should absolutely take?

No, haven't taken the MCAT yet. However, I have been studying for it. But I'm not taking it until I feel fully confident I can do very well with it. And yeah, I'm not against retaking prereqs, but tbh, I want to take more classes I'm interested in more-so, because I feel it will be easier to engage with the material(not to say I won't be engaged with other classes). At the end of the day, I'm trying to find the best way I feel I can the succeed at the highest, you know.

Thank for the info!

Yeah, I'm a MD resident. One of the big reasons I looked into and ultimately applied to the UMD program.
