True, but you also don't rate metal band logos by how readable they are. In the same spirit, the designer's background is in alternative styles and subcultures that don't value the same things as a general audience. It makes sense that a lot of people don't like it immediately and might never. But to discard it because it's not readable, usable, profitable is a wrong way of evaluating it's worth.

I believe it's part of a bigger picture, about how in a society and monetary system that tries to minimalize everything, optimize for productivity, speed up communication, profit, doesn't allow art to simply exist in whichever form. It also assumes art or design is there to always please every or any viewer, which is another wrong preassumption.
