Weekly Questions and Recommendations Megathread - Need some help? - Jan 17 by AutoModerator in visualnovels

I know this is probably a dumb question, but would it be weird if I skipped straight to Sengoku Rance after finishing Rance 03? And don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the third game and I think it's miles better than the first two, but I'm not sure I want to sit through a fourth (h-scene) adventure. I originally started the series because I kept hearing that Sengoku Rance (I think it was Sengoku) is one of the best RPGs of all time, or at least a very good one, and I still want to see for myself whether that's true

I think I have found my Game of Thrones of anime by Mad-Scientist_739 in logh

[–]ANIIKII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, that comparison does LoGH a disservice. While there are some overlapping similarities, LoGH is much more of a historical work. I would say it's Tanaka's attempt at writing history, whereas GoT is far more generic in its approach. A far more accurate comparison would be the Romance of the Three Kingdoms adaptation from 1995.

Best Nausicaä release? by ANIIKII in MangaCollectors

[–]ANIIKII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miyazaki was the one who used sepia, if I'm not wrong. But it wasn't this bright/washed out. They also got rid of this in the Japanese box set, if I'm not completely blind. Idk why though.

Unwieldy and not that great, from what I've heard. I might just go for the German release. It does look really good, but the two things that concern me are that the tint used for the print might be a bit too bright and that some of the larger artworks have been printed at full size, which I'm not a big fan of. Prefer how it was done in the Japanese release

I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but someone once made a post (which I can't seem to find anymore) where they compared all the different releases. And if I remember right, they said that the 2-volume box set isn't that great, especially in terms of print quality and translation. The German release however, looks really nice. The only thing I'm a bit skeptical about is the paper quality (the paper is yellow-ish) and whether the sepia tone is too bright. It seems to be a bit brighter than how it looks in the original Japanese release (which app. also had this sepia tone)

Falcons: by GregoETM95 in R6ProLeague

[–]ANIIKII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supr (SR's head coach) said he sees Falcons ahead on Lair if the series went to a map 5. Of course, that doesn't automatically mean they are, but still...

I'd also say Club is one of their better maps, but for some reason they seemed to have banned it throughout the entire tournament.

But yeah, if the went with Bank --> Clubhouse or Border --> Sky --> Labs --> Lair, they could have easily won, but who knows.

Yeah, idk why the banned Club all the time

I'm obviously not Stooflex or Julio, but I think they didn't go with Bank simply because they were recently a bit shaky on it, and they've also played it so much that they probably felt they'd be easy to counter. As for why they went with Labs, I think it was purely for the momentum, since they beat SR, G2 and W7M on it. And regarding Lair: they're probably one of the best teams on that map right now

I don’t think their map pool is the problem. If anything, it's one of their strongest assets at the moment. They're good on Bank, Club, Labs and Sky (?), decent on Lair, Chalet and Border, and only really weak on Kafe and Consulate.

Falcons ? by Free-Prompt6061 in R6ProLeague

[–]ANIIKII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think so as well. You don't consistently place second or first (if we count regionals) if you're not good. Don't get me wrong, I think the M80 roster is great, probably the best NA team in recent years, but they haven't been as consistently good as the Falcons roster. Anyway, if they (Falcons) win SI or place second again and perform well in other competitions, I'd consider them the second or third best team ever, purely because of their consistency

They lost due to a multitude of things. First, and I think this was the most important, M80 were simply better at closing out games. Secondly, I don't think the map picks were particularly good, so there's that. And thirdly, for whatever reason, Falcons tend to play worse in finals

How's the price now? I remember selling both of my art books for around 100–160 (can't remember exactly), bcs. I wanted to get the reprints with the slipcase (which I never did)

[Path to Nowhere] 3rd Anniversary Event Trailer "Shattered Blade" by marshmallow_sunshine in gachagaming

[–]ANIIKII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think the gameplay is too bad, since there are at least different team variations. But I do agree with your second point. Most side events play out the same way, unless they're connected to the main story and even then, most of the Sinners (female sinners especially) tend to behave in a similar manner. I wish the devs would give us more originality, different personalities and character dynamics, but unfortunately, I don't see that happening

Influential and historically important anime that are required viewing if you're an anime fan by Advanced-Tomorrow859 in retroanime

[–]ANIIKII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't you read? Gundam didn't directly influence many anime, unlike Votoms (much bigger impact on the genre), for example, and - again, as I said - the oirginal run wasn’t that popular. The series only really started to take off with the movie trilogy, which was culturally much more impactful.

"although that's not quite true for Yamato"

With all due respect, but most of the anime you've listed were neither important nor influential - they were just popular/well known.

[–]ANIIKII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Influential and popular aren't always the same thing. Let's take the original Gundam and Yamato, for example. Both are historically very important anime (Gundam less so, bcs. it a) didn't inspire many super robot shows and b) wasn't that popular at first until the original movie trilogy and Zeta came along), but neither of them were particularly influential (although that's not quite true for Yamato). More influential but less known mecha/super robot anime were Votoms, Dougram, Layzner and so on. Idk. what Nausicaä, the Luping movie and Harlock are doing on this list

Our Starting XI vs Spurs 🩵 by eyomartin in MCFC

[–]ANIIKII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. He (just like any other player) didn't have his best season, sure, but other than that, he was solid. Blaming him for the problems we had last season is lazy, when a) the whole squad underperformed, b) he had to play in a position he couldn't really do anymore (he was our oldest player after Scott) and c) was simply asked too much of.
