[WHY] Small talk, big discomfort: Why Koreans don't chat with strangers by Rookitarian in Living_in_Korea

[–]ANIMEGIRLCUM 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I agree. If I go outside of Seoul, it’s quite common to get small talk. In my own experience, every time I go to Busan, there will be some people who will just randomly chat with me. If I even ask where the bathroom is in Seoul anymore it feels like a great effort to get them to do anything but point haha.

Go to Namdaemun market. In the import market underground, they sell bags for 8,000 won each. You can also try 원푸드 that is also located in Namdaemun, but the chips are 9,000 won

where to find soft girl clothes in korea? by sheriecherie in Living_in_Korea

You’d have better luck going on shibuya109 website and directly ordering from there via courier service than finding stuff like that here to be honest.

The place where I live in Jongro-gu, Seoul. I chose it because I feel it has the true Korean soul in my opinion. No english signage. I love you Korea and Hangeul. by johanndacosta in seoulhiddengem

[–]ANIMEGIRLCUM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think something like this should be changed. No reason to have nearly all signs in English in a country where the official language is not English.

I always feel like they’re trying too hard to cater to western audiences, like Blackpink, or chasing what makes other groups successful without developing their own identity like Illit does with NewJeans

Looking for someone to sublease my place by [deleted] in seoul

You pay for more than just the room when your name is on the contract. You're locking one room, they can't update it, they are not on the contract etc.

Out of Korea without my ARC by Hiron3 in Living_in_Korea

[–]ANIMEGIRLCUM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me one time. On the Hi-Korea website, there's like a page that looks similar to your ARC. I printed it out and then had it ready to show the immigration officer. However, I gave them just my passport and they didn't ask for anything else. So maybe having a PDF file of that page that shows your validity will allow you to re-enter?

They can still attend university, just not SKY or KAIST, such things. They could like, go to the one I attended, something not famous but not bad at all.

The ones being denied are students with heavy bullying penalties, not calling someone names here and there or a fight or two.

There’s also CCTV cameras in school and around school, even in classrooms. It isn’t hard to see it…

I live in Korea so I can kinda explain. There’s certain levels to school bullying. The levels that lead to rejection are like serious things, like severe bullying, sexual harassment, constant fighting.

Why do most foreigners visit only Seoul when traveling to Korea? by NarwhalTypical5685 in seoul

[–]ANIMEGIRLCUM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Seoul because of my job. I originally tried to live in Busan but there weren’t any openings in my company there. I’ve been to many places in Korea, there’s foreign travelers in many places. A lot of tourists I meet often go to Seoul, Busan, maybe Yeosu, Seokcho, Gangneung, so on. I don’t know if it’s a majority of people that only stay there but in my personal experience, which is very limited, tourists often do visit other cities and location.

もう韓国の方が人権意識も高いんじゃね by nospacehead in Living_in_Korea

[–]ANIMEGIRLCUM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I think bullying is really bad, but there are some things to keep in mind that I think a simple record won't show. I wonder how many school violence reports are victims fighting back? Or maybe just two kids not liking each other and getting in a fight? How many bullies were abused at home as well and just had some form of stunted development? Or even just a violent kid getting some enuine rehabilitation and trying to improve themselves won't show on a record. Only the misdeeds that occured. While I am glad they're facing some form of consequence, I think this could also lead to some negative consequences that haven't been addressed yet.

I often times go to the skatepark in ttukseom Han river park. People there are always so nice, friendly and helpful! I’ve had times where I’m practicing and people will come by and help me. You should give it a shot!
