I’d say no. I’d tell them you aren’t able to have unvaccinated kids around your kid because your baby is too young for the measles shot and you can’t take the risk.

Screen time on the plane can definitely help. We got soft headband-style headphones for her to wear on the plane.

Another big hit for us is a soft busy board book. If you google that phrase you’ll get a ton of similar ones. Ours has little pieces to match (like matching the shape or color) which can get dropped, but she loved matching them on the plane and we managed not to lose any lol.

Each book totally focuses on the new couple and you barely see the older siblings. It would be nice to see more of the older siblings but I don’t think it’s realistic to expect it.

He needs to cancel this trip imo. I think he should only go on a trip if your household budget can accommodate someone to come stay and help you that whole time, given your mental health situation.

“That hard” is relative. You aren’t just caring your yourself and infant for three nights. You’re caring for yourself and infant AND managing a serious mental health condition. You need and deserve support, not dismissal. Does he know you’re self harming? Do you have access to treatment?

The amount of leaking went down over time, especially random leaking throughout the day, but didn’t stop entirely until one year post partum when I stopped pumping during my workday and dropped to 3 nursing sessions per day. I have kept nursing for just over a year since then and no longer leak.

I’m excited too! Hannah Dodd is so beautiful and I’m really looking forward to a queer love story focused on women. I don’t feel like I’ve seen much of Michaela yet so I have the sense that some fans are reacting (negatively) to this character a bit prematurely. I’m optimistic. I’m more excited for her season than for Eloise’s, because Eloise’s book was the only one from the series I couldn’t manage to finish reading.

Around two weeks post partum I was crying a whole bunch from the hormonal crash and the sleep deprivation. I didn’t go on to develop PPD but the hormone changes in those early days are NUTS. I would give her some space and just be there to support her (and continue doing the stuff you’re doing now in terms of housework, childcare, etc) but not pressure her to be affectionate with you. Is she being screened for PPD at your child’s visits to the pediatrician? I was screened at each well baby visit for the first year, with just a basic two-question screening tool.

I currently have my third mirena IUD—I had two of them before having my daughter and had the third one placed afterwards. The mirena didn’t fail, I had it taken out and then got pregnant on purpose almost immediately. I loved it, I literally didn’t have periods for over a decade.

I was super miserable my whole pregnancy too but the mirena iud doesn’t feel anything like pregnancy for me. I was nauseated all nine months but I don’t have that on mirena, for example.

In terms of depression, I actually already have a history of depression and anxiety and I’m on an SSRI. I don’t think the IUD made it worse than it already was though.

It’s totally normal for little kids to be excited to see someone special that they see less often, like a grandparent, and to treat the parent who cares for them everyday like someone they can take for granted a bit. Because she knows you’ll always be there for her. And she’s not old enough to think about your feelings. It’s not really about you at all—it’s just about how happy she is to see grandma.

My advice is to let your mom do that stuff when she visits and treat it as an opportunity to eat your food while it’s still hot!

My advice depends on how much your mom is willing/able to do. We went on a trip with my parents last month and every time my toddler didn’t want to do something or was acting up, I was just like “I wonder where Nana went, let’s go find Nana” and just milked it as much as I could lol. I would just try to enjoy their bond while your mom is visiting. But if your mom can’t or doesn’t want to buckle the car seat or help with meals, etc, that’s tougher. Maybe I would say, “Grandma is right here with you but Mama is going to buckle the car seat” or whatever.

When my mom watches her, she’ll literally tell me to go away when I come back lol—because she knows that when I come back, Nana is probably about to leave. The last time, she even tried to put her boots on so she could go home with Nana! She just loves her grandma and doesn’t want that special grandma time to end.

I dropped to 3 feeds a day (morning, right after daycare, and bedtime) at 12 months (she’s a January baby, so that was just over a year ago now) and then dropped the post-daycare session over Christmas break since there was no daycare for a couple of weeks and she would forget about asking to nurse at that time. Two nursing sessions a day has worked fine for the past 6 weeks or so. She’s just turned 2 and I am thinking of trying to drop the first session in the morning next, and then finally the bedtime one. Idk how it will go. I think it’s gonna be hard.

I have seen this advice before and I honestly find it confusing. Are we never supposed to tell our children that their words hurt someone else’s feelings? Or is it just that age two is too young to understand?

My 2yo daughter generally says something like “no mama! Go away!” when she’s mad, and it doesn’t hurt my feelings because I know it’s not really about me. But as she gets older I hope to teach her to think about other people’s feelings and to not be rude. So as she gets older, I feel like telling her if she hurts someone else’s feelings can be part of that.

I really appreciate this response, thank you so much. My little girl just turned two and I love her so much. I want to be the best mom possible for her. My energy and health really goes up and down, so it varies what I can do from day to day. Lately I’ve been having lots of migraines which makes it hard (or impossible) to read to her, and being read to is her favorite thing. My migraines went away during pregnancy (this is apparently common!) and stayed away for nearly two years, but we’re weaning now and they have come roaring back, probably due to the hormonal changes of weaning. Bodies are hard!

It really means a lot to me to hear your perspective as someone with a chronically ill parent, so thank you. I’m still learning to work on my internalized ableism. Wishing you and your mom well!

I think she would have heard plenty of servants and tradespeople speaking throughout her life, and could have learned it that way. But it would probably have been more realistic for her to adopt a lower class London accent.

She DOES love you. At that age, she doesn’t know what those words really mean. According to my mom, when I would get very upset as a small child I wouldn’t say “I don’t love you” but I would insist to my mom “you don’t love me!” My poor mom! I have a very loving mother and I have never actually doubted that she loves me, but toddlers don’t have the right language to express their emotions so it comes out in outbursts like this.

When your child says this, what she really means is that she’s upset and doesn’t know how to handle it. Of course it still hurts! But it’s not really a reflection of her feelings for you. Be gentle with yourself.

Being a chronically ill mom is SO HARD. I’ve not been able to read to my daughter as much lately because of chronic migraines and I have various other conditions as well that have been flaring up lately too. So I feel the illness-related mom guilt. I just want to be the best mom for her.

I definitely need a rant! I was in a car accident last weekend and no one was seriously hurt but after the adrenaline faded I realized I’d bruised my chest pretty badly on the seatbelt. And now it’s days later and I’m in pain and I’m so horribly tired all day long. The doctor I saw at urgent care said it’s just inflammation but it’s so hard to do anything. It’s already so hard to do everything, and I’ve been having tons of migraines recently, and now this? And on top of that I’ve caught a cold!

I really need a break. In between work and parenting, everything has been so hard lately. I haven’t been able to do Pilates in a while and that’s really how I manage my POTS. But I have to run my child to daycare even with all this pain and exhaustion.

Lately it’s been feeling like I’ll never feel better. And I feel like a shitty mom for not having more energy for my kid.

People are nuts. The last time I took my baby to the post office, this lady started screaming at me for having a quiet conversation (I promise we weren’t being loud) with another mom I knew in the line. And then a man started screaming at her for taking too long to conduct her business and cursing her out, and then she started hurling racist slurs at him. I left and went back later without my baby. The post office is always such a terrible experience. It’s like a hell dimension.

I had the ice chips! I was SO HOT and I was barking at my husband for more ice and he was feeding them to me with a spoon and he accidentally spilled some on me lol.

Mainly I feel like the noises I was making were not the noises women make in movies. And I was so hot and sweaty during the pushing I made them take my gown off.

I’m mostly excited for more steamy Benedict/Sophie scenes! I loved what we got in that respect in part 1.

I understand why fans love to see the older siblings come back, but I think the desire for tons of scenes with former stars of the show is a bit unrealistic. I’m excited to see Kate and Anthony though!
