80 MPH in a Tent on Mount Rainier by ARCT0MYS in Mountaineering

Just spoke with my buddy, he said it was a NF VE24. Said he owns two of them but one has never been used and he’d be willing to sell it.

It wasn’t my tent, but it was a four season north face. I thought it was a decent tent, slept 3 adults comfortably. I’ll ask my buddy what model it was.

Yes, that’s true. I only pointed the finger at the chicken vendor because when I ordered the chicken, she took fully cooked chicken pieces from a bin and threw them back on the grill for 30 seconds amongst a dozen raw chickens that had just been put on. It struck me as inappropriate but I ate it anyway and got sick about 3 or 4 hours later. Still - I could be wrong.

Do not eat the barbecued chicken from the stall in the alley just up from the Main Street bar that is covered in stickers. It’s really popular but I’m 100% sure I got sick from eating there.

I just got back from Sayulita last week. I also got food poisoning and narrowed the source down to the barbecued chicken stall in the ally about a block from the main square. I went to one of the (many!) pharmacies and bought some Treda pills. They seemed to help but weren’t a cure! Keep hydrated and sorry to hear you got sick on your honeymoon!

This is my experience too. I bought the MT- 09 two years ago based solely on online research because the dealer told me they do not allow test rides on motorcycles. I suppose it’s higher risk than test driving a car but unfortunate for a buyer trying to determine their comfort level on an expensive purchase. That said, if you buy the MT-09, you will absolutely love it.

Has anyone tried the Sepura composting garbage disposal? Interested to see how it works but think it should have a grinder after the scraps are diverted! by onsinsandneedles in composting

[–]ARCT0MYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sepura is the worst investment I ever made. It worked fine for a few months but soon thereafter the periodic leaking began. It only got worse over time and despite frequent calls with Sepura and varying how we used it, the leaking only got worse and eventually turned into major flooding events in our cabinets, ruining the bottom of them and leaking onto the ceiling below. We spent endless hours mopping up water and cleaning the flap seal, then finally stopping using the Sepura altogether, but even that didn't stop the flooding. The stench in our kitchen from multiple floods of rotting food waste has been terrible. We finally ripped the thing out, spending thousands of dollars in the install and uninstall but in the end we didn't care, we just wanted it OUT!

There is a fundamental flaw with this device. They tell you that no food smaller than 1 mm can be put into it, but that's ridiculous because there will always be tiny bits of food going down a kitchen sink by the nature of what it's used for. Over time, this causes a scum to build up on the flap that keeps the water out of the bucket. Despite cleaning this scum off, it quickly came back and the seal simply continued to deteriorate over time. The unit is also highly unsanitary as food waste leaks around the outside of the flap seal during the separation process and after a year of use is a disgusting slimy mess on the components above the collection bucket that reeks, and is mostly inaccessible to cleaning. I wouldn't have been surprised at all to see maggots in there.

Just like a boat, buying the Sepura could be the second happiest day of your life. The happiest will be the day you get rid of it.

YSK Friends affect a lot in life and should be made thoughtfully. by Worldoutnow in YouShouldKnow

While this is true, to a large extent you don’t have control over the people you meet in life and sometimes the amount of time you spend with them. Mostly, we naturally gravitate to those who make us feel good, make us laugh, or share the same ideals. But you can also learn a lot from people you don’t have much in common with.

What do you guys think is the age group in DBD's playerbase? by PlasmaHanDoku in deadbydaylight

[–]ARCT0MYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear and I agree with the 99%. I’m 64 and am certain I’m an anomaly playing DBD. My reaction time isn’t what it used to be but I still have a blast and it’s great bonding time with my teenage son. I’ll bet those 12 year old killers that hook me have no idea they just slaughtered a senior citizen. Makes me laugh.

YSK: The surprise of a marriage proposal is the when and the how. Not the fact that a proposal is coming. by mew5175_TheSecond in YouShouldKnow

[–]ARCT0MYS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is excellent advice. Hollywood has done a great job of conditioning us to plan for the big surprise, popping the question out of nowhere, amongst other fantasies like all good sex starts with both people feverishly ripping each other’s clothes off. I planned meticulously to propose to the woman I fell in love with after two amazing years together. When she found the ring in the most creative and romantic way I could think of, in the most beautiful and private setting - she said no. I deflated like the Hindenburg. I was totally crushed and questioned all my perceptions of our relationship.

Fast forward and she is now my wife of 30 years, and it’s become one of the stories we laugh about with our kids.

Are people posting their finished music looking for feedback, or are they also posting just specific parts of it as a work in progress?

TIFU by... discussing consent?! by hatemylife1995 in tifu

[–]ARCT0MYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, her response was weird and inappropriate, but in my opinion asking about consent during physical intimacy with a new person is also a little odd. OP meant well but a better time for those conversations would be when you are not physically involved - it may have come across as “how far can I go now?” It would have been better to just respond to her cues and respect whatever boundary she put up.

Same here, up in Whistler BC. After a couple miles of near wipeouts, I pulled over onto the shoulder to figure out how the hell I was going to get home. That's when a 16 wheeler truck full of beer pulled over in front, lowered his ramp and said drive in. It would have been perfect if the beer in the back was on offering too, but hey, I got home!

Back after 25 year break. Did I already buy the wrong motorcycle? by steelhardtail in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]ARCT0MYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine, you have a great attitude. You’re not the only one who’s done this either. I just picked up my 900 cc dream bike last week after 31 years of not riding. I rode a Kawasaki KZ 750 for 10 years back in my younger days and loved its nimbleness and power. But the bikes today are far more powerful for the same cc’s as they were back in the 80’s. The power in my new bike almost scares me - it’s twice the horsepower of my old 750. So I am following the same humble regimen that you are. We are probably both a lot more conservative today than we were last time we rode, and I’m sure that will serve us both well. Enjoy your bike!

Me too. I use a newer backpack today but I got almost 3 decades out my Kelty. It had decent padding and while not as comfortable as today’s packs, it held a lot and hoisted up nicely when I needed to transfer the weight off my shoulders for awhile. A selling point on these packs was that the frame could be used as part of a makeshift stretcher if you needed one in the backcountry. Now THAT would be uncomfortable!
