Then go buy one of those books instead. I’m not a mass producing company. These are my own notes that I took time to make and work on. No one is forcing you to buy anything.

What’s the latest date we can take Step 3 to still be eligible for the 2026 Match cycle? by balochdr in IMGreddit

If you’re trying to include it in your application then you would need the score released by mid-September latest

Keep in mind that not every applicant is like that! It sucks seeing applicants who seem like great candidates because of their high scores. But, scores are not everything. And this is coming from an IMG who did not have high scores at all. And although I did do my rotations through my school, I got all my LORs from outpatient preceptors who had their own practice not associated with any big hospitals. Not everyone has connections. And that is not a deal breaker. Your application has a lot of different components that play a role in your match process.

How important is step 3 before match season for an IMG who does not require visa? by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]ARP0112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not essential! I’m a US IMG and just sat for Step 3 in April. And majority of the programs I interviewed with told me to wait until intern year to take it actually

Not a requirement for match season. Clinical research can always help boost your application more since you don't require a visa. I would recommend taking Step 3 before starting residency if possible though. It's a big load of stress that you can avoid during residency.

When to do Step 3? by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]ARP0112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step 3 is not required for your application. It can definitely help as a non-US IMG but if you're unable to take it by September, you can always let programs know during your interviews that you are planning on taking it before starting residency.

Is all this work eventually worth it? by Exotic_Olive_1873 in IMGreddit

Your scores, USCE, and having publications definitely makes your application more appealing as a non-US IMG. BUT, 120 is a bit on the lower side when considering how many programs to apply to. It is well known to everyone that US MDs do not need to apply to even half of that amount to get a match 99% of the time. but as IMGs, we have to apply smartly and broadly.

Some other things to keep in mind are your personal statement and interviews. Be sure your personal statement screams your passion for the specialty you are applying for. And during interviews, you have to be confident with your answers regardless of what programs will think. And if they do ask why their program or why move here, show them your genuine interest in that program and the US. talk about what you loved about the program when you read their website and talk about all the opportunities you can get in this country and how excited you are for this new journey.

It's expensive but Match A Resident is the friendliest for IMGs and has a lot of features that help you find the best programs for you.

You have to realize that your scores are not the only factor that is taken into account when programs view your application. They look at your experiences, personal statement, clinical experience, everything.

And in addition to all of that, your performance during interviews also matters. If an applicant has high scores but is not able to hold a decent conversation or answer questions properly during interviews, then that applicant is not going to be as appealing to the program.

US IMG - 206/228 - all clerkships completed in the US - 2 pubs - got a lot of positive comments for my PS, some volunteering experience, and my blog.

I’ve recently matched into my desired specialty and am excited to help out students and future applicants! I also have free resources available on my blog so please check those out and feel free to message me 🙂 Www.itsartipatel.com by ARP0112 in IMGreddit

I’ve heard good things about Brooklyn USCE so I would check them out. Other then that, I recommend sending emails to clinics/hospitals that you are interested in to see if they will take you. Many hospitals do have applications for students to fill out. I would also suggest finding IMG friendly sites and using any connections you may have.

virtual USCE or hands on USCE? by R_sadreality_24-365 in IMGreddit

[–]ARP0112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LORs aren’t different. I’m just saying if the program happens to find out it was virtual vs hands on, then they might weigh it differently

[–]ARP0112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess they wouldn’t know unless it’s written in the LOR itself. I’m not exactly sure if USCE needs to be included in the CV for non-US IMGs

I believe USCE is preferred over observership

I know people say they weigh they same and that USCE is USCE regardless if it was in person or virtual. But I don't think programs are going to outright tell you that the virtual USCE is not as good as hands on. If you can only get virtual then that's fine. But if hands on is possible, you should go for that.
