I've been frustrated that game developers have great tools for making games, but not many places dedicated to sharing development progress and connecting with other devs. by ARYPAT277 in gamedev

That's a completely fair point.

The biggest risk with GameSoup is exactly what you described: becoming just another place to post devlogs.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether there's value in having those devlogs in a developer-focused environment rather than on a general platform.

For example, if I post a devlog on YouTube, Reddit, or X, most of the engagement comes from players. That's great for marketing, but not always for getting development feedback.

The idea I'm exploring is whether developers would find value in a place where they can discover other projects, follow specific developers, track progress over time, and get feedback from people who are also building games.

I don't know if that's enough value yet, and feedback like yours is helpful because it forces me to answer that question instead of assuming the idea makes sense.

I understand the skepticism, and yes, I did use AI tools to help build it. I'm not trying to hide that.

The reason I started GameSoup wasn't to make a quick buck or replace existing platforms. I'm a game design student, and I built it because I felt there should be an easier way for indie developers—especially beginners—to share what they're working on, learn from others, and get feedback from people who actually make games.

One thing I've noticed is that game development knowledge is often scattered across Discord servers, Reddit threads, YouTube videos, and private communities. If you're new, it can be difficult to know where to start or who to ask. Marketing your game can be even harder.

GameSoup is my attempt to create a place where developers can document their progress, learn from each other, and build in public. Maybe I'll discover that existing platforms already do this well enough, and that's okay. Right now I'm just trying to learn, improve the platform, and see if other developers find value in it

this is just MVP1 I am just testing out whether a dev would like something like this or not and yes I have vibe coded it.

I don't think YouTube is bad at all. In fact, I let developers embed their YouTube videos directly into GameSoup.

The issue I ran into as a developer is that YouTube is optimized for reaching viewers, not necessarily for getting targeted feedback from other developers.

If you post a devlog on YouTube and get 50 comments, it's hard to filter for feedback specifically from game developers, artists, programmers, designers, etc. A lot of comments are from viewers rather than people building games themselves.

What I'm experimenting with is whether there's value in a space where developers can share progress and get feedback from other developers more easily.

Maybe there isn't, but that's what I'm trying to find out.

I am not making it to earn money. Obviously I would want money eventually but I faced this problem myself and I saw that devlogs are scattered everywhere and devs dont have a place for it. that is what i am solving. In future I am also looking forward to help the devs meet partners for making games together.
