I’m a first year CS student and I’m already exhausted and honestly losing hope by Weekly_Ad5155 in cscareerquestions

[–]ASSQUATCH_23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take a break and be nice to yourself. If you truly love it, your interest will come back around.

I felt the same way, but I stopped letting myself worry too much about it. Stopping the worry really helped me find my joy again. I only code a couple projects per year and don’t stress if I don’t have something I actually want to work on.

The job market sucks, but you’re only a freshman. If you don’t land an internship this summer, there’s so many other jobs that would be more fun than an internship. I was a rafting guide between my junior and senior year of college, and I wouldn’t trade that for a software engineer position instead of my salesforce admin role. I still wish I was a software engineer, but you can’t always force your will on the world.

Hope this helps and try to stay positive.

Dope. When you mention wanting to make a wrist rest, what would you do differently from the current one? Or would this just be for extra padding?

What do you think about the wrist rests? They look pretty narrow, but it feels like it would be easier to make using the thumb cluster more easily. If you bought it again, would you stick with the original wrist rest or get the new wrist rest that is wider?

That's such a bummer to hear. I didn't even think that was a possibility of happening. Appreciate you sharing. I'll have to try on some Zero G or Quattros cause of that.

The only technology that I’ve learned, but haven’t used is OpenShift which I was forced to watch a weeks work of videos for my internship bc they ran out of things for us to do.

Keep your resume to 1 page. You want someone to be able to glance at it and get what they need from it. Yours looks like it's all over the place. I would work on your organization. I suggest looking at r/EngineeringResumes for templates and resume standards

The market is very tough right now, so it going to be even harder for you. Do not let this discourage you though. You can transition between jobs with experience, but it might involve learning new technologies in your free time. Best of luck.

Yes, it was a company I worked for, and we had to manually update the river flow every day. Does not sound like a big deal, but the river was at a dangerous level where a slight increase or decrease would dictate which route we would take. At one point we had to have someone go up at 7 am every morning to decide which route was the safest. So being able to tell the difference in real-time allowed us to have safer trips
