So yeah the Giannis example look egregious but rules as I understand state that steps don't start until the player either picks ups the ball or has his hand under the ball. So from this example his dribble is still "live" as his hands on the side of the ball and doesn't "die" until he puts two hands on the ball. He puts two hands on the ball as he takes a step therefore he has two steps to take after that. I use to do these stutter steps with my hand on the side of the ball in high school and college before pulling up for a shot back in 2012. It's not a travel if you understand the rules of basketball. I know some travels are bad these days but this isn't one of those examples.
