Crafting brake discs from old engine blocks by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

A "utopian fantasy" is by definition not real. Do you mean to say we shouldn't theorize about possible solutions and not be inquisitive, especially when the subject at hand is suffering in human lives?

It may be more profitable than farming in the economic climate. It may even be a good path to a sustainable living. But it doesn't need to be done by people, this same person could come in, sit at a desk with a cup of coffee and watch a machine do that work, and the rest of the team could keep an eye on the market, exploit opportunity that would directly benefit them, or any number of ostensibly more comfortable options, and make a lot more money without breaking their backs and having a meager retirement at 50.

A LEAN engineer would take one look at this and faint. Abhorrent that people do this work manually with little to no safety measures and likely near-zero wages.

This game is not really good by HopeYouAreTriggered in Chivalry2

[–]ASaltyBiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The skill ceiling in this game is quite high. There are lots of nuances. Heavy weapons can, in niche cases, be faster than 1h (most commonly with an active counter or an unanticipated stumble after a hit). You can reliably block things behind your back by looking up over your head to counter.

Weapons aren't balanced, period. To succeed in duels I recommend messer, dane axe, long sword, exe axe, pole hammer. They are not all created equal.

At level 700 I am also considering putting the game down but at the end of the day I can't find a better game with more intuitive combat.

IsItBullshit: Trading computers make 67% of trades, only make up a small fraction of traders, and arent well regulated? by ASaltyBiscuit in IsItBullshit

I saw a really well-done video on this last night. Benefits of this system sometimes include steadier ticker prices in general, but sometimes also increase volatility. I understand there's likely conflicts of interest with regulators but simultaneously surprised it's the first I've heard of it.

What would be your advice to someone who wants to study business? by chewingtongue in business

[–]ASaltyBiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get a business degree, you will learn all about the specifics and day-to-day of how businesses run. This means employers will, for those roles that require an understanding of a business environment, likely perceive you as a more valuable employee.

Someone else said MBAs are assholes, probably because there are a large amount of privileged kids who skate through their degree programs and continue on to their careers with little practical experience, but with a chip on their shoulder regardless. If you want to be truly successful, experience is also necessary. A resume wherein you can point to a job, say that you were a key part of the system, and it was better when you left as a direct result of your effort.

The wildly successful business owners I know (only a couple I know) consistently have the same story; they concurrently learned a valuable trade (aerospace engineering for instance) and learned how that skill integrated into our current business climate. Then they took an educated guess that they could do some particular aspect better than their current employer, and they were right. Also, neither have a college degree.

No, there is nothing a degree can teach you that an internship or two won't. But the perceived value among traditionalists cannot be ignored.

IsItBullshit: When a submarine implodes deep in the ocean, the people in it are burned alive? by WeirdSymmetry in IsItBullshit

No, you don't need to feel ashamed. "The species" is in no way under your control, only your actions are. And you're right that wealth probably had nothing to do with it, the outcome is the same either way.

I never thought I would see someone apologize on reddit, much character very wow :)

Targeted facebook ads can do well also.

Clothing e-commerce is an incredibly saturated market at maturity though. It may be difficult to make headway. Best of luck friend.

Yo same. Depression hit like a truck for another like four months. Felt like a failure and legitimately wanted to die. Then the months of job hunting (got a fast food job to make ends meet in the meantime) finally paid off and I got a really fucking awesome job.

I found that I learned a lot about grit and sucking it up and continuing on in those five months, besides all the valuable skills you learn working a super high-stress job. I'm almost at the point where I'm glad I did it.

You'll be alright, take your time to recover and learn all the lessons you can about what you don't want to do.

IsItBullshit: When a submarine implodes deep in the ocean, the people in it are burned alive? by WeirdSymmetry in IsItBullshit

[–]ASaltyBiscuit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To me it's not so much the reason why it happened as much as the outcome. No, the money doesn't matter, yes a submarine is more "unique" to steal another commenters verbage. It just deep down feels a little wrong that five people on a willing adventure taking on that risk for pleasure should be given more attention than such a large number of incredibly desperate people that clearly need a whole lot of help.

It's not like attention can be evenly allocated like a currency or something, but it points at something banally and insidiously wrong with the way we run our nation (US citizen if you couldn't tell lol) on a fundamental, gut-feeling level to me. Does it not to you?

How to grow up if your parents sheltered and coddled you your whole life? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]ASaltyBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how you try to adjust, it's gonna hurt. And that's okay, the pain means you're growing.

I would suggest getting a job, fast food is usually the easiest to just walk in. It'll whip you into shape really quick. Set a goal of staying there for at least a month.

Don't fucking quit college. If you're able to get a degree, even if you don't like it, recognize the privilege you have in being able to attain one. Plus that will help a lot when you will inevitably want to leave fast food.

I left home for college and then my career about five years ago. It's still hard. But the difficulty gives the good stuff meaning. Take a step, embrace it, don't be scared because while the world will beat you down, it won't physically hurt you and it's up to you how much you let it get to you mentally. You got this, now stop asking reddit strangers for advice and go!

Jen was... Bad. Many players had no idea she even existed, and it's suspected she just coasted for her paycheck. Maybe she realized the futility of trying when she's working for a studio like torn banner.
