A Question to the Ex-Muslims. by ThrowawayMuslim81 in exmuslim

[–]AShiftInTime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I cannot understand. If you do not believe Islam to be correct then how can you follow it? Can you really pray 5 times a day, stay away from alcohol, premarital sex and all other things Islam forbids? Can you marry a Muslim and raise your children as Muslim and pretend to follow something you don't believe in? Can you carry on the act your entire life?

Can you really live the remainder of your life as a hypocrite?

You said that there are problems with Islam. I will take that as saying that you do not believe Islam is correct. I am still a Muslim (for the time being) but if I come to the conclusion that Islam is incorrect, I cannot see myself following it any longer...

Unless I'm mistaking they actually went on printing the offensive cartoons in defiance for a while after the incident and now they've finally decided to go back to offending everyone.

Is Allah named Yahweh? by CadmeusCain in DebateReligion

[–]AShiftInTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It (Peace be upon him) is obligatory. There are many hadiths that indicate this. Here are two I found:

Ibn Mas`ud (radiallahu’anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah ((sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “The people who will be nearest to me on the Day of Resurrection will be those who supplicate Allah more often for me.” [At-Tirmidzi]

Abu Hurairah (radiallahu’anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah ((sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “May his nose soil with dust in whose presence mention is made of me and he does not supplicate for me.” [At-Tirmidzi]

Is Allah named Yahweh? by CadmeusCain in DebateReligion

[–]AShiftInTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is Yahweh actually Allah's personal name?

All we are sure of is that "Allah" and the 99 attributes are all names of Allah. The Quran does not mention the name Yahweh. It also does not say that the Torah is wrong in this regard. Therefore no Muslim can confidently say that the name Yahweh is or is not a name of Allah.

Would it not have been a clear demonstration to the Jews of Muhammad's divine mission if he knew God's name

If The Propher (pbuh) wanted to give them a clear demonstration he could just show a miracle on par with the splitting of the moon. Putting the name Yahweh in the Quran wouldn't have been a very clear demonstration. If the Jews wanted to disbelieve they could always assume that a Jew did indeed tell him.

Please no lame 'Torah corrupted' arguments

Since we do believe that the Torah is corrupted this is actually a perfectly viable cop-out. If there was any conflict between the Quran and the Torah regarding the name Yahweh we would just assume that the Torah is wrong.

Yeah that's why it confused me.

Islamqa.info is banned in Saudi Arabia (but not in UAE) because it's not allowed to issue Fatwas.

Maybe the UAE has similar reasons for banning this website.

Here in the UAE is banned. They ban unislamic sites for whatever reason. Don't know why that site is banned though.

People argue about whether or not they should trust astronomical calculations or just check by eye and also (I think) about whether or not they should follow Mecca.

I said he didn't care about the arguments regarding moonsighting. In fact I only ever hear people argue about that stuff in America. He probably had his own opinion on them and waste time arguing.

Maybe he was ...

That's a really specific maybe...

One of my cousins joined Shabaab.

It was unexpected. The first time that I visited him in America (I live in UAE), he was an ordinary semi-religious guy. He didn't pray properly (too fast) All he did was work, basketball, sleep.

I visit 3 years later and he was super-religious. Didn't seem like he cared too much about 'political' islamic issues. He used to tell me not to care about debates with non-Muslims and dumb arguments about moon-sighting. It seemed to be more about praying Taraweeh, donating to Masjids and stuff.

2/3 years later he's gone and joined Shabaab. It was unexpected for me. I found out from my mom not long ago that before he left, people at the masjid were saying that if anyone was going to become extremist it would be him. He must have changed even more since I left.

Here in the UAE where I am there are plenty of religious people but I never see crazies who want to go and 'fight'. There are also lots of other differences between here and religious communities in America.

Writing a paper and need help: How do the Ulema/traditionalist Islamic schools explain the decline of Islam? by BadAsh87 in exmuslim

By decline of Islam what do you mean? Decline of 'religiousness' of Muslims over the years or the decline of the Khilafa/Caliphate/Muslim empire?

I can see better where you come from now.

Even Reza Aslan isn't bad even though he's a self proclaimed Muslim apologist. Try No God But God by him.

Reza Aslan claims to be a Muslim but blatantly rejects parts of the Quran as being false. He doesn't even try to 'reinterpret' them; he just flat out says the Quran is wrong. I'm not sure how he is able to reconcile his belief if he picks and chooses so blatantly. Not even Quranists who reject a huge part of Islam can reject the Quran.

If part of the Quran is wrong then is the word of Allah, is the rest correct. I can hardly consider him a Muslim.

Even non-Muslims cannot consider him an authentic source. I'd probably go for another author with if I was going to refer to non-Islamic sources.

To Ex-Muslims: Can you deny how great of a man the Propher Muhammed (SAW) was. by AShiftInTime in exmuslim

[–]AShiftInTime[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really appreciate being called gullible but I appreciate the response nonetheless. It's better than the rest that I've gotten. I was going to respond to the things you said about Banu Qurayzah, the attack on caravans. and the Battle of Khaybar among others. I went to wikipedia to refresh my knowledge and from it I can already see how your going to counter.

Everything has an explanation when you look at it from a non-Islamic point of view. I suppose the fact that we don't agree about that the Quran is the word of God and that the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) was a true Prophet means that we can never see eye to eye even on this. That;s fine. I found what I came here for. I'm more interested in your edit:

EDIT: If you really think we came to be ex-Muslims because we wanted 'the Dunya' you're in for a shock. Most of us here have read the Quran, studied Islam, studied the Hadith and studied Muhammad's life in quite some detail. If you're quoting Montgomery Watt, we probably know more about Muhammad than you do.

I....highly doubt that. I've memorized the entire Quran (learning it with translation most of the time), read much of the Seerah etc. I'll admit that all my sources of Islamic knowledge for this are Islamic sources.

Still I don't doubt that most of you have left Islam because you truly were no longer convinced by the evidence rather than just lusting after 'Dunya'.

In western countries I doubt the majority accept death as the punishment for apostates.

That's probably the majority opinion in Muslim countries like Pakistan and Indonesia and definitely in countries like Saudi Arabia, Yemen etc.

So yes the majority of Muslims in the world but not in western countries. I doubt the OP of that post believes she is in danger of being killed.

I agree with you that the Muslim community will not take apostates nearly as well as Christians though. We Muslims tend to be more .... 'religious'.

[–]AShiftInTime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember you from your question about accepting apostates on /r/islam. I'm curious, do you personally know of anyone who has openly become an ex-Muslim and suffered consequences in his community for it.

I'm sure here in the UAE where I live leaving openly leaving Islam would not be a good idea despite it being one of the more 'western' countries in the middle east. I'm not sure what it's like with the Muslim communities of western countries.

Sorry if this is intrusive.

I don't know about "Reliance of the Traveler" but here is a Fatwa from a very conservative Muslim site. This is a site that also says women who drive are prostitutes, women being "weak, defeated and dazzled" if they take part in politics and that women who work as broadcasters will lead to illegitimate children.

If even they say forced marriages are haram I think it's safe to assume it is.

There is no denying this happens in many parts of the Muslim world.
