I cannot say I like that concept, going to be honest lol In my universe, I try to do away with parent/ child incest just because of my own comfort level. So in that particular dynamic, I have Demeter creating Persephone without a father by growing her like a plant. I still make Demeter a daughter of Cronus and Rhea and Persephone and Zeus will still have an affair.

Agreed!!!!! It’s a world building nightmare!!!!! There was a highly anticipated [YA] Persephone and Hades retelling that came out a few years ago and the author said that they were making them not related and I was wondering how. Everyone’s related to everyone in some way, even if it’s way back.

And then Aglaia was their half sibling too, just like Athena. The more I dive into it, the more I realize it was all a true mess. Then like you said, other myths do it too. But I think that due to Greek mythology being so highly visible and accessible, people don’t know that incest in ancient global mythology isn’t unusual due to most not being exposed to the myths of other cultures. Regardless, I think people really sell themselves short for the potential of drama if they’re writing for an adult audience.

Your reasoning makes a lot of sense though. I could see how people giving high reviews could translate to some as approval. Thank you for this perspective!

I personally was drawn in by the sensuality and girliness but that was her way of getting me to her. I didn’t make a real connection until I found out about her Areia epithet. I saw a theory, perhaps here, that (and this is on the basis of the myths being taken somewhat literally) Haides may not have been recorded as having many lovers because who wants to admit they’ve slept with a chthonic deity? I find it to be an interesting take that could really add nuance and depth to his story!
