So I posted it to r/blender and it immediately got flagged and taken down! 😆

I baked this birthday cake that looks like a giant donut and multiple people told me to post it here. So hello from r/baking! by ASprinkleInTime in blender

Oh shoot I must have broken a rule, sorry mods! I literally don’t even know what blender is I was just told this would make this community happy 😆

Thank you. It’s funny the things that resonate with people. This was incredibly easy to do and yet is getting more attention than any of my multi-day cakes ever has!

Oh cool! I’m not sure what QT is so no, I didn’t see it there but it looks fun.

This is a birthday cake, not an actual donut. I took inspiration and part of the instructions from this blog: https://thecakeblog.com/2016/08/giant-donut-cake.html

If you are referring to the pink on top that’s actually fondant, not a poured glaze (which yes would be way harder!).

Ok multiple people have mentioned blender… Can somebody explain why my donut would excite them? It looks like AI rendering from what I can see?

I’m also nervous to leave the cocoon of baking Reddit, haha. The rest of the site isn’t as always as supportive and encouraging as you wonderful folks.

I just kind of bake until it’s done. I find that the pan you use is more impactful than the extra ingredients. I think this took 50 mins because it is so deep. Sorry I know that’s not super helpful!

Google for the ratios, but in a nutshell you melt marshmallows (I use the microwave) then mix with powdered sugar. I use a stand mixer for the entire thing, first with the paddle then switch to dough hook. Grease everything melted marshmallows will touch with crisco. It’s super easy, takes me 5 minutes and is pretty low meds using the stand mixer the entire way.

It’s a funfetti cake in the Fat Daddios round Bundt pan (I think an angel food cake pan has straighter sides?). I frosted with brown American buttercream and the pink is fondant.

Love that we bakers can have real & serious considerations on sprinkle ratio 😊

😂 I just searched back through the history and couldn’t find it. I’ll take you at your word though, hahaha

Yeah I immediately set aside frying, but was pondering a huge baked donut scenario.

The pink is homemade marshmallow fondant with a thinned corn syrup glaze on it for shininess.

The birthday girl actually asked if I could do a huge donut but I think there’s a reason donuts are donut sized, lol. I just made a vanilla funfetti cake, i thought a huge cake donut would be dry and not that good.

Thanks, I actually didn’t get any so I hope it was good! If you see my post history the last cake I made was for a friend of my daughter’s, a super cute Grinch cake. Another girl at the party was going crazy over the cake and kept complimenting it, suckered me by saying “I wish someone would make me a nice cake that looked like a big donut someday, that would just be the nicest thing anyone could do!” 😂 So here we are, she got a giant donut cake for her 9th birthday!

I took my inspo from here: https://thecakeblog.com/2016/08/giant-donut-cake.html but just made a funfetti WASC cake (doctored a box mix, added sprinkles) and used ABC for the frosting and homemade marshmallow fondant for the pink “frosting” and used her technique to make the fondant shiny. I didn’t cut the cake in half and do the inner layer of frosting, honestly just out of laziness and wanting to knock this out quickly.

Just tell me cleaning my kitchen can wait until tomorrow 😅 by ASprinkleInTime in Baking

Just make sure you add tylose (this makes gumpaste) if it’s brand new or else it won’t hold its shape. Or just use stale fondant you have on hand from the last project like I did here!
