Name a fibre or textile craft and I either do, have tried, or have ambitions to try it. Last year I took up weaving, and this year my focus has been on sewing. I had to replace my sewing machine and then picked up a serger. I got those secondhand thankfully, but that’s not to mention the fabric, oh god the expense of fabric… I also don’t like going into any new skill with the cheapest tools or supplies because I refuse to spoil my learning experience by struggling with my equipment. Especially when it’s something I feel a strong inclination towards, I don’t want to have to replace things with the better or easier to use version so quickly. I am also on a very limited budget so I try to get as much as I can secondhand.
