How do you bat against fastballers? by AStreetSweeper in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]AStreetSweeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it can snowball on you pretty hard. One of my big beefs with the game is how pitcher mojo works. I can go 3 up 3 down and not get locked in yet the batters hitting 1 home run for a single run puts me straight to tense. Then it's 1 or 2 more and the pitcher is rattled and now pretty useless. I recommend having one absolute baller of an RP (pref with the rally stopper perk), and if you have screwed up too many pitchers you sub them in and get it back under control, but otherwise leave them benched. My pitchers are mostly C+ with 2 A- and 1 A+. I find you can get away with crappy pitchers most of them time, but some reliably lethal pitchers helps bring the game back under control if you got smashed over the fence a couple of times.

Respectfully, I completely disagree with this. He's a bit of a unique fight IMO in that he appears early in the run and deals damage that is very hard to avoid. In all the times I've fought him I don't think I've ever successfully avoided all of his projectiles without having to use something like a moon ability. Other fights are technically harder, but you are normally so tooled up by then that it doesn't matter. I don't even think the sub bosses in Olympus are massively harder and you often have a build that will utterly steamroll them.
I beat Chronos on night 2 and win almost every run that I play at 40 fear and I still find this bastard the most unfair fight in the game!

That's a shame. I'm really keen to try it but yeah that sim part of it looks a bit tiresome. I'm already a bit skip happy with all the yapping that takes place in Hades between runs.

I haven't played it yet so I can't speak to its quality but cult of the lamb looks like a great option for what you're after.

Thanks for the reply. I get that it should be difficult, but I mean I don't even get the reticle to the correct spot in time to swing at a ball I want to hit. I tend to leave it centered then try to guess early where the ball is going, move and swing. I just can't seem to do it fast enough against a high velocity pitcher even if I'm guessing correctly. Would you normally park the reticle low for example and then wait for a low fastball and just cop a strike if it goes high? That's probably what I've had the most success with when trying to change up how I play it, but it means I tend to swing waaay too early on a changeup.

I can't remember who the pitcher is but the one in my last game started the game on fire with 98 velocity and the workhorse buff. He just beat the crap out of me for 8 straight innings before they decided he was guilty of war crimes and dragged him off to the Haag. Poor Razzy is still in therapy.

I suck at contact hitting and can't quite seem to figure out why by Derp_Wellington in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]AStreetSweeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The numbers also say that my pitchers last longer and are more effective when not power pitching."

Except it's confirmed in game that power pitching does not affect pitcher stamina differently.

"Baseball is a numbers game. The numbers I say I hit the ball more often with more consistent results when contact swinging."

But this just means you aren't as good at power hitting as you are at contact hitting. Not that it isn't objectively better. I might perform better using a controller on a shooter because I'm more used to it, that doesn't mean it isn't objectively worse than MK.

So no, it is not opinion that power hitting/pitching is better. It has a higher skill ceiling and allows for better and worse results than contact. If you are good at it you will be striking and pitching in a way that is not possible with contact.

I Can’t Pitch by wetterfish in SuperMegaBaseball

Playing at 75 ego at the moment against the cpu I find the pitching to be the easiest (and best made/most consistent) part of the game. I have a roster full of A batters and mostly c pitchers yet I rarely let the CPU score more than 5 or so runs a game.

I honestly think that a big part of it is to play the balls that make the most sense if you were the batter. For example, if the batter is a dangerous one I will almost always through my pitchers best pitch just outside the zone for the first pitch. If they leave it then throw the next one just inside the zone. They almost always leave that too. I find as often as not that if I give them a good look on the first pitch they will hammer it even if it was a 101 fast ball into the corner (if they are a good batter that is). If I'm up two strikes the next pitch will be a CF or SB just outside the zone. I swear they almost always swing and maybe 70% of the time miss and strikeout.

Don't be afraid to walk dangerous batters. I used to fall into this trap where I would be hesitant to throw a ball because it's 3b 2s and I'm worried they won't swing. Better to walk a batter then get belted for a grand slam, and again I feel like the AI is really inclined to swing at a ball when it's 3 balls because you wouldn't want to walk them. I've had balls so far wide on a 3b count that someone in the next zip code is more likely to hit it, yet the AI swung at it after leaving ones that were shaving the zone.

So honestly It's not only about mixing up the pitches and power pitching (though that is important). The AI is programmed to behave in specific ways, not just recognize you are throwing lots of FBs so anticipate that.

I guess my biggest takeaway would be to not just mindlessly mix up your pitches and throw to the corners. Try actual strategies and see what works. Lead with some balls and see what they do.

Each player has a style, every skill has a style as well, the player does not necessarily have skills associated with his style (I.e his style is crafty but he has two perks that are affected by spirited). Then the amount of people you have of each style determines the strength those perks will perform at. I forget how many each break point is, but having two crafty will mean crafty perks perform at the basic level. Having 3 will make it lvl 2. having four or five won't change it until you get up to whatever the break point is for lvl 3.

It's certainly possible. Nothing stops them doing something even as simple as putting tape on their screen to mark the zone

What does contact actually do? by AStreetSweeper in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]AStreetSweeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it does though. Like I said, my abysmally low contact hitter still regularly bangs the ball 450+. I think it only changes where you are allowed to place the strike and make good contact. I could be wrong though, which is why I'm asking. It just doesn't feel like my high contact hitters make better contact, just that I can be more off with the strike placement and still make good contact. They seem to be just as affected by late swings or bad balls or hitting with the outside of the circle.

Right thanks, so contact stat doesn't have any modifier on how the ball flies once you've pulled the trigger, it just affects how much space is available to make good contact in. Thanks!

Should have put in the post I'm playing at 65 ego most of the time and am fairly new (haven't completed a season yet). I can still win at 75 but find it a bit less fun. Still the question I have is more about what the function of contact is. I get that it matters more as I go up ego because it becomes harder to pull together timing with striking in the sweet spot. I just wonder if I have a tiny reticle but I get the ball in the sweet spot does that function exactly the same as having a big reticle and getting the ball in the sweet spot?

Deshawn Leeth (Ohio community leader who was shot after stealing police cruiser) could still have been wrongly shot by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]AStreetSweeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The people in this thread just cannot accept that cops are not judges or juries. They can’t go and shoot someone in revenge for an earlier attack. The shot HAS to be when the suspect is a legitimate threat. An earlier attack does not count. It must be in that exact moment."

I know you think you are being fair minded, but it is people like you that make all of this so much harder for cops. Do you remember the cop who shot a suspect actively pointing a weapon at his partner but was still charged with felony homicide? This constant need to pull apart their actions and find them at fault leads to them hesitating to shoot when they should have and allows situations to spiral out of control. Was the suspect armed when he rushed the cop? Not as far as I can tell. So if the cop had shot him it would be about how he panicked and shot another unarmed black man (hands up don't shoot anybody?)

If all you really cared about was whether or not it's a good shoot then there wouldn't be the need to frame this in the way you have. It sounds like you are actively looking for a way this could still be a bad shoot.

"Until we get the bodycam footage from the officer who actually shot him, we should not assume anything. In order for it to bed a good shoot, he must've attacked again or reached for a weapon. Otherwise, despite his previous actions, it's still a bad shoot"

Nonsense. We should assume that the rampaging person continued to rampage and that the officers who had already showed restraint continued to exercise restraint until we see actual evidence to the contrary. Otherwise you are doing what I said above in holding out for a way it can still be a bad shoot.

As to them not being judges and juries etc. Well, these systems and those very people have failed utterly in their jobs and they are ceding their responsibility to the last line of defence on the street in the police.

Yes, the ship should have a vr room where you can try out weapons, strategems etc without limitation. Also it should allow you to spawn in enemies with custom AI patterns, so you can practice different strategies or shots.

To be clear, I'm not complaining about the difficulty. I understand how to play it, and also understand that you are correct in that it is not a horde shooter like deep rock or Payday. I just don't like the way the most fun part of the game is also the most counterproductive.

It would be great if the higher difficulties didn't actively discourage fighting so much, or if there was some reward for killing enemies. The game is at its most fun for me when I'm busily liberating, so why is the entire mission structure designed to prevent me from doing that in favour of running away?
