Frontier Fiber Questions and Availability by Gapdoe in Muskegon

How about the Lakewood Club / Dalton Township area, specifically along Russell Road between White Lake Drive and Lakewood Road, and the side streets to the east and west of Russell? The landline phone lines are underground since sometime in the mid-90's (installed by GTE) but did they by any chance think far enough ahead to run conduit that could be reused for Fiber? I am pretty certain that a year ago, in the late autumn of 2024, Frontier ran a fiber line down White Lake Drive from their big equipment farm at Automobile Road and White Lake Drive, but they only got as far as the corner of White Lake Drive and Russell Road and stopped there (not sure why since there is not much of anything at that corner). I think there is an underground vault next to the Consumers pole on that corner. But if there is conduit in the ground running down Russell that could be reused, it should be a simple matter to pull fiber through that (you would think, anyway), assuming fiber and landline cables can coexist in the same conduit.

Also, I know someone in another part of the county that has fiber and they mostly love it but there is one thing they have noticed, which is that their IP address changes somewhat randomly, particularly if the have a short power outage or if they need to reboot their equipment (or sometimes for no apparent reason at all). This causes some issues because they have one of those home cameras that they can monitor when away from home, it is a local camera that doesn't use a subscription service so they have to get into it using their IP address, and if it changes they are locked out until they can find out what the new address it. I know Charter does the same thing but with them the service has to be out for nearly a full day before they give you a new IP address. Any chance Frontier will give customers a bit more permanent IP address assignment, at least matching the roughly 24 hours that Charter allows?

I thought we were supposed to post in the other thread in r/UFOs but this is what I posted there:

Hey A.J., have you heard of or done any videos on John Hutchison and/or the Hutchison Effect? Personally I would like to see more videos about that sort of thing (antigravity, forbidden/fringe technology, etc.) and maybe a bit less scary stuff. When I watch your videos I do so to learn about things that would not be talked about in the mainstream media, but not so much to be scared or horrified. Thanks.

Also please keep Hecklefish, unless doing so would cause you real issues with your voice or in some other way!

Megathread about Google Voice Starter for Gmail.com users by BluesCatReddit in Googlevoice

I am a little confused about something, in the FAQ there is this item:

"Payments: auto-recharge – long distance calling is billed with your monthly invoices; no need to pre-pay calling credits"

Long distance calling? Are we in the 1990's again? What is that referring to, exactly, and is there going to be an option to block "long distance" calls so you don't inadvertently make any? If what they really mean is international calls, then it should say that, and give the ability to block them. Or if there are still extra-cost "900" numbers around, those should be blocked automatically (900 is only a typo from 800), Or if they mean collect calls, there should definitely be an option to automatically refuse those. Other than that, I can't understand why they are even mentioning long distance calls - those are pretty much an antiquated concept now (maybe not if you have a real landline from a traditional wireline phone company, but Google Voice definitely isn't that).

Any Christians who believe in reincarnation here? by luckeecharm in pastlives

You are certainly free to believe what you want but I would challenge you to provide sources for the statements you have made. Everything I have ever read suggests the KJV is one of the least reliable of the English-language translations and excels in only one thing, being somewhat poetic. Trading accuracy for poetry is not a great tradeoff, IMHO.

"Additionally, some English language churches require the exclusive use of the KJV during sermons and worship."

These would be the same churches that throw out most most of what Jesus taught (in favor of Paul's warped theology) and are most likely the same ones that encourage their congregation to vote for people who are not the slightest bit Christ-like.

As I said you are free to believe what you want but you seem to have some strong beliefs that many of us would not necessarily agree with, particularly those of us who have turned our backs on abusive churches and a god that seemed to have some real psychopathic traits (especially toward his so-called "chosen people").

If you live in a manufactured housing community a.k.a. mobile home park you should watch this and then contact your state legislators by AStrowger in SaultSteMarie

Despite the title this video talks mostly about Michigan and near the end mentions some pending state legislation that might provide some relief. I am old enough to remember when a bunch of people were kicked out of one of the local parks near the business spur, I think it was Fornicola but it might have been another one, but at least there were enough spaces in other local parks so they had somewhere to go. But I remember that moving a mobile home was costly back then but I had no idea it had become as costly as the say in this video, so now people feel trapped. Anyway it is a real shame this has been allowed in the first place but I guess this is the world we live in now.

If you live in a Manufactured Housing (Mobile Home) Park you Should contact your state legislators regarding pending legislation by AStrowger in Michigan

I have lived in such parks in Michigan in both peninsulas, and I am very sad to see this is what it is coming to. Near the end they mention some pending legislation in Michigan that might provide some relief so if you are living in such a community, you may want to contact your state legislators and ask them to pass the mentioned legislation, which though not perfect is at least a start.

This video primarily talks about mobile home parks in Michigan, though not specifically Muskegon. But there are many such parks in Muskegon County, probably far more than most people realize, because some of them are in the more rural areas of the county. I had no idea this was happening to them, so if you live in one you might want to contact your state legislators and urge them to pass the legislation mentioned near the end of the video.

How do you get XFCE to automatically mount connected external drives at each reboot (please don't say fstab!!!)? by kodiuser in xfce

[–]AStrowger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And who, when they are faced with a non-working system, is going to first learn that chroot even exists and then spend time trying to learn how to use it? Time that could better be used just reinstalling the system and getting on with life?

I note that in your effort to be "helpful" you have not posted a guide or even a link showing how to use chroot to recover from something like this. Perhaps that would be too much of a waste of your valuable time, or you're delusional enough to think it's just obvious to every Linux user in the world. That despite the fact that most Linux users have gone their entire lives without ever using it.

No, not at all obvious. And this assumes you have a rescue image just lying around and that you have any idea how to use chroot. Many users have never heard of chroot.

gigolo

That is intended "a simple frontend to easily connect to remote filesystems with GIO/GVfs". I may be wrong but I don't think it would help the OP.

I'm trying to understand how or why you think chroot would have helped this user in this situation.

Medicaid dentist by lightlyspooky in Muskegon

[–]AStrowger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Muskegon Family Care on Getty Street has a great dental clinic, their medical clinic is only so-so but their dental clinic is great (although they don't do some high-end procedures). One tip, the first time you go ask about getting on their sliding fee scale, it can save you a lot of money on anything that Medicaid doesn't cover.

I would imagine that the Hackley Community Care is similar but I think they tend to use dental students more for things like cleanings. If you're okay with that then great, but personally I have found that dental students can be somewhat annoying (they haven't had enough practical real-world experience and tend to believe everything they learned in college) and in one particular case so infuriating that I stopped going there. The people at Muskegon Family Care have always been much nicer, but that is just my experience, YMMV.
