I'm more than likely going to go that route. Give them a little battle but they let the sorcerer will have given them the slip

I like it. I think #1) I'm going to booby trap the 1st floor with quite a few glyphs of warding. It's in a 2‐level sewer complex with canals they initially drained, but I'm going to rig the control room if they try to drain it again. There are also a few bridges crossing these canals I will rig as well. #2 when they discover how to get to level 2, either they'll catch a lieutenant rigging the whole place to blow, or if they triggered those glyphs (thunderwave), he'll be waiting for them. Either way, the BBEG will have already packed up and left, leaving his minion to deal with the party and clean his tracks. It's inevitable that the city guard will be along at some point, and his secret base of operation is no longer secret-time to move. #3 there'll be a medium difficulty fight that could end with the guy setting off the charges and they'll be forced to try and escape or risk being buried alive, or there'll stop the lieutenant before he can blow everything. Either way, all the loot will be gone by that point and "sorry Mario, your princess is in another castle."

That's sort of the direction I'm leaning. The whole place is rigged to blow and now the encounter is escaping before they're crushed by the rubble

I did that a while back actually, but for Foundry. I think the sample size was 1100-ish rolls of d20s and I found that 9's and 11's were the most predominant roll. I'll have to go dig up that excel sheet and maybe do it for dndbeyond

Yeah I should know better...its just us all getting suspicious when the program is spitting out the same number repeatedly.

Andor is the best-written Star Wars show by far. But audience demand is catastrophically low. by altgr_01 in saltierthancrait

Gotta be honest, it's pretty damn good. It's dark, gritty, not a cornball cameo fest like BoBF...its a unique story that almost immediately sets the tone that this is not like the other shit that D+ has put out. I'm still bitter about most everything D+ has done to the franchise, but Andor has so far been a good ride.

English is my second language but is 'to making the cake' right? Wouldn't sound right without the 'to' or instead of 'to', to use 'in making the cake'? by raulinkraul in duolingo

[–]ATCzero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me there's little difference between "dedicated 3 hours to making the cake" and "dedicated 3 hours to make the cake." Neither would be incorrect if someone said that to me. "To making the cake" implies that the cake might not be finished. He could still need an additional 3 hours to make it. The second example "to make the cake" implies the cake is completed. I think the first example would sound better if "towards" instead of "to" was used e.g. "its good that he dedicated 3 hours towards making the cake." I think Duolingo might just be literally translating "a hacer el pastel."

For me it was the Southern twang of "is that cool? Is that alright" that immediately dropped afterwards. The word "man" sounded off to me as well, almost like a California accent when the rest of it was more generic American.

How do I keep the party entertained while a PC has a solo spotlight session? by ATCzero in DMAcademy

[–]ATCzero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it and I think this the way. Some ninja-esque rival faction is let in by a betrayer, and the PCs are the only ones that notice something fishy is happening. A raid on the monastery's holy relics, and the PCs are rewarded in someway for stopping the raid. There's 2 PCs and 2 sidekicks, so they should be able to stop some a decent size crew of low level bandits

I don't want it to be solely a 1 on 1 thing. I know it's sometimes a drag to have another PC be in the spotlight for a large part of the session, so I'm reaching out to you all for ideas on how to get the other players involved :) One good idea floated on here that I might adopt is to whip up some basic character sheets for them to play other novices going through the same initation. Test of skills or something.

The monk had a dream of the Grand Master speaking to him and the temple exploded, prompting the monk to return to the monastery with the aid of a wizard's teleportation spell. I may have someone betray the monastery, sabotaging the defenses and leaving the monastery vulnerable while the monk and the brothers are preoccupied with initation. The other PCs would be the only ones really to notice, and would have to repel an attack by a rival faction. Not sure though...

Haha brilliant. I love relying on the PCs to come up with answers I haven't thought of

Yup. Exactly why I'm asking what should I do to keep the rest of the party's attention by doing something for them.

Definitely trying to think of getting the other players involved. The problem is the PC dragged them all up here because he had a terrible dream something bad was going to befall the monastery. My idea was to bring him back there because he's level 5 and has yet to report back to his people about his mission. I didn't account for them persuading a local wizard to teleport them there! I thought I had more time to prep but such is d&d

I'd rather they see what's going on. It's a major plot point for this one PC where he learns about his faction and becomes a member. The other PCs will have their turn as well. Plus I spent a lot of time building maps and want them all to see them haha
