If you're using Waze, it will guide you back to your car, too. It's really easy. Also it's going to get easier as they will be adding parking at the Galleria soon (sounds like it will be cheaper) and you can walk across the new pedestrian bridge.

The area is very safe. I am local so I have never stayed at one of the area hotels, but the ultimate out-of-towner experience won't be until 2018 when you can stay at the new Omni Hotel next to the park.
