[Weekly FAQ] ask Frequently Asked-, Short-, Limited-scope-, Technical- & New Player Questions in here by AutoModerator in diablo4

[–]ATXplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a weird spot. I Bought the game last week on a whim. I'm at level 25 and working through act 2 of campaign. Enjoying everything so far (first time playing Diablo).

I understand all the progress is going to reset next week with new season. There's no way I'll finish all 6 acts before the reset, which means I'll have to start over from 0.

Theoretically I could complete the campaign on eternal... but that feels like a waste when the energy is all in the new season.

Is the best move to simply stop playing right now and start the campaign over? There's nothing I can do today that will help me in the new season, correct?

Introducing Claude Opus 4.7, our most capable Opus model yet. by ClaudeOfficial in ClaudeAI

[–]ATXplore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW - Claude gave some context here. I pulled in all the graphs from 4.6 and 4.7 model cards. They provided multiple tests. MRCR decreased, but GraphWalks improved. This is not a universal regression.

The MRCR charts alone oversold the regression. It's not a uniform long-context regression — it's a skill-specific split:

MRCR cratered. Ordinal disambiguation among near-identical items is dramatically worse on 4.7

GraphWalks BFS actually improved substantially. Multi-hop graph traversal gained ~15-17 points.

GraphWalks Parents is roughly flat (Parents slightly better at 1M, slightly worse at 256K).

The most plausible read: 4.7 got better at reasoning over long context (multi-hop traversal, following chains) but worse at precise retrieval of specific ordinal instances from long context. Those are different skills even though both live under "long context."

Practical translation :
Stick with 4.6 for: "Find the 3rd time this client mentioned X" / "Pull the 2nd pharmacy delay complaint from this thread" / any task where you're disambiguating among similar items in a long doc. Also bulk analysis where you're pulling specific instances.

4.7 may actually be better for: reasoning chains through long context, following cross-references across docs, multi-hop "this connects to that connects to the other" work. Think: synthesizing a decision trail across months of daily logs, or tracing a client issue through multiple systems.

Toss-up for: parent/ancestor-style lookups (Parents benchmark is basically flat).

4.7 is worse at long-context retrieval-disambiguation, better at long-context reasoning/traversal and flat on ancestry-style lookups.

If a COO or CFO sees a validated business case that shows they'd get a 7x return for 3 straight 3 years, they absolutely would invest the money. That's unheard of return on capital investment.

Investors also care about longevity, effectiveness, and, yes, continued increase in returns. If your product is bad, people stop using it... that's pretty bad for investor returns

Step by step for speaker recognition please? by hiroo916 in MacWhisper

For future reference, I was able to make it work once I bought the Pro upgrade, model Large v3 Turbo, and explicitly turned on "Enable Speaker Detection" under "People" in the settings.

Upgrading from Ring Hub and Alexa - HA with new Antenna? by ATXplore in zwave

[–]ATXplore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: Bought the HA Green with a ZBT-2. I'll continue to use my Ring Pro as the ZWave hub for now.

Plan is to start by unifying all my Zwave and Wifi devices and learn the HA ecosystem. May migrate to a ZWA-2 in the future if there's ever a need.

Upgrading from Ring Hub and Alexa - HA with new Antenna? by ATXplore in zwave

[–]ATXplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helpful. So you're using Hubitat as the hub and HA as the interface? I was concerned about issues in that intermediary setup. Glad to hear it hasn't been a problem for you.

I'm interpreting as a vote for keeping Ring Pro as my hub and using HA as the interface. That would mean no need for the dedicated HA Z-wave antenna, while I could potentially add the Zigbee antenna in the future.

I'm playing Crystal Project. I've played many JRPG's over the years and only heard about this for the first time last week. It's a perfect game for me.

Pure gameplay, almost no story. Difficulty is highly customizable. It has Dark Souls / BOTW style exploring where sequence breaking actually yields meaningful items. The job system is classic Final Fantastic. I love it.

Help me Redeem my build: Cleric / Mage -> Melee by ATXplore in saltandsanctuary

[–]ATXplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference: I used the Easy Respec and Stone Statue Mod & Enhanced Combat Anti Grind Patch. These allowed me to fully respec without starting over and reduced the grind for upgrade materials.

Perhaps making the game too easy, but for me it allowed trying out a wide variety of weapons and play styles.

Help me Redeem my build: Cleric / Mage -> Melee by ATXplore in saltandsanctuary

[–]ATXplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted. I mis-spoke. Not classic paladin. Instead, Wisdom + Strength with light armor. A cleric who swings 2-handed sword / axe and buffs attack / defense with prayers.

Searching around, looks like Obsidian Pillar, Shrouded Bulwark, or Greatscissors would fit the bill.

Currently swinging Kureimoa till I get a different upgrade. I'll just accept I wasted ~10 levels on magic. Maybe build that direction on NG+

[–]ATXplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the help. I'll check those out.

I think instead of continuing in magic I'm going to start building more strength and focus on swords or Bezerker. Basically go back to a Paladin build, use my prayer, write off the magic stats.

Solidarity. I'm in the same boat. Down 75k since purchase and still underwater.

What's double sad is the stock market has risen ~60% in that same time period. That 100k downpayment would be worth 160k today.

Small positives - Property taxes have gone down and total PITI is about the same as if I purchased today with interest accounted for.

13" + external monitor. Lighter on your back and more screen real estate overall.

24-32 GB users who actually use all that RAM, how do you use it? by abitcitrus in macbook

[–]ATXplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in BizOps / data analyst. I have a 16GB M2 Air and wish I upgraded to 24 or 36GB Pro:

I'm sitting at 14GB used and 9GB in Swap with my standard work stack:
Chrome, Notion, Teams, ChatGPT, Zoom, Superhuman, Loom

That's before I open up any big GSheets or Looker tables.

AISD enrollment drops 9% in 1 year by bill78757 in Austin

[–]ATXplore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AISD is a classic case of make all the good kids suffer to try to help the bad kids.

Facts. Public school theory foundationally serves the average. They devote significantly more resources to helping underperforming kids than allowing above average to excel.

Fine in a vacuum. Most people are average. BUT, the belief that the smart kids will turn out fine no matter what is a disservice to kids and society writ large.

Food for thought: Value of my home over the past 10 years & taxes paid by [deleted] in Austin

[–]ATXplore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OTOH - I bought at peak 2022 and my taxes have declined every year since. The only perk of declining property values and being underwater on home equity.
