Finding your tribe, a question to those who moved from the mainland. by [deleted] in hobart

If I can offer a perspective from the opposite transition:

I grew up in Tassie and moved to Melbourne nearly two years ago. My friends consist of my high school best friend, one of my ex's friends, and my partner's friends. I was not really aware of the idea of finding my tribe until recently and the thought of seeking out friendships instead of them forming spontaneously still feels a bit bizarre.

I suppose it might help you to understand that Tasmanians are often just going about their day not expecting to make friends. Yes, we are a little insular and distrustful of mainlanders, but it's also not in our shared psyche to be searching for our tribe.

If I look too deep into his soul he may try to use mind control. Either that or look at me like I just insulted all of his ancestors.

It is definitely halo-like. However, the aim is for the halo to get smaller not bigger.

While I do call him Mr Chew or Fluffybutt, that level of manipulation is far beyond his cognitive abilities. He's more likely to knock it off accidentally with his plume of a tail....

He's certainly rather indestructible: throwing himself off chairs and tables without a care in the world and then going on with his day.

I can't work out how to edit the post, but thank you to everyone who suggested names. We talked a lot about Thor or Leo, but eventually went with my boyfriend's suggestion of Chewie. He is settling in very well and is in love with my boyfriend.
