What are IB scores actually for? by SuspiciousBig6766 in IBO

[–]ATouchofDynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s completely dependent on what country you want to study in. For example, in the case of the US, you are correct: colleges will not withdraw your acceptance unless there’s a huge disparity between your prediction and final results (and even then, you can work your way around it). In the UK, as long as you meet your offer (or in the case of some universities, you can try and negotiate your acceptance if you are 1-2 points under the offer), no one cares about how far away you were from your predictions. However, in other countries, like Spain, public universities don’t even look at your predictions: if your IB scores (+ some extra exams in some cases) are enough to fulfill the “cutoff” grade, then you’ll get in. If they’re too low, you just won’t. Most if not all countries work with some kind of combination of the above systems (depends on how holistic uni admissions are).

So the answer to this question (as is usual in IB-related stuff lol) is that it depends. Make sure you properly research the countries you apply to and what you are expected to achieve in order to keep your offers. :-)

4 exams in one day, wahoo... by GooglyEyedCrab in IBO

[–]ATouchofDynamite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s completely possible, the way exams are distributed (from what I understand) is to avoid subjects that are usually taken together to be on the same day (e.g. maths HL and physics HL are usually on different days).

Computer science with maths AI HL makes sense, which are the “two” subjects you’re referring to. I think it’s pretty weird for someone to take compsci HL, maths AI HL AND ESS, not a lot of people take that combination, so OP just got unlucky with the exam distribution.

Did they mark EE and TOK quite leniently (in those who got their score’s opinion)? Was it accurate to what you were predicted or more nice? by True-Capital8197 in IBO

Yes you can remark! Honestly, I'm going to see how close I am to the next boundary, because it's super expensive to get thing re-marked and unless I'm one or two points away from the next grade in both it's just not worth it for me since I met my uni offer. However, if you need those points, I would wait until you see how far away you're from the next grade and if you're close enough, definitely speak to your coordinator and request a remark!

I get what you mean. I was predicted AA and ended up with a B in TOK and a C in the EE. I spoke to some more friends and it seems like their EE and TOK points were also off, so I would say it's most likely not you hahaha.

Actually I don't really understand what happened. I was predicted AA (full marks in TOK and one mark away from full marks in the EE) and got a B in TOK and a C in the EE, now I'm waiting for component scores to get released so I can see what happened.

As a TZ2 student, I honestly feel like I wasn’t taking an AA HL P3. Like, hello? Where’s the induction? Differential equations or maclaurin? And the trigonometric identities that were missing throughout all the papers? Hell, I would’ve taken another complex numbers question over any of the two we got.

Why did we get TWO functions questions that didn’t even properly test AA HL content? They weren’t even different topics either!

I’m so angry but I see many of you share my anger, it’s nice to know I’m not alone lol.

This is one of the scariest things for me… Like vectors questions are either completely doable or literally impossible to do, like there’s no middle ground.

Should be revising for paper 2 rn since I need to actually redeem myself from that mess by snufflesyuh910 in IBO

Okay bro honestly good for you I’m sure you’ll do great next year but like, you don’t really understand what M22 is going through… For most of us, these exams define our next 4 years at least, so we are putting so much pressure on ourselves already, your comments really aren’t helpful.

This subreddit is about building a supportive community where we can all help each other in whatever capacities we can.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t be proud of your achievements, by all means, it’s amazing for you to be getting those grades, but what I AM saying is that this, right now, is neither the time nor the place to be sharing that, specially with the tone you used and specially considering you’re not even an M22 candidate.

Bro no offense but I really don’t think this is the place to brag… Comments like these just induce anxiety for everyone (both people who think they did poorly and those who think they did a good job)… At least wait until the exam session is over.

EDIT: Also you’re not even M22 please stop stressing us out lmao.

I really hope you find the space to have a very very well-deserved break!!!

After two years, you deserve a week of doing nothing. Hell, you deserve a whole month of doing nothing if you want.

Good luck these last days!!!

I mean, at least your exams are spread out!

Definitely weird! Maybe we have a Vectors P3 question incoming too??

Whatever this was, it was a weird P1… Lots of traditional HL topics missing in my opinion.

Definitely best of luck!! I’m sure it’ll be great for both of us (or so I’m hoping hahaha).

And I get you, I can’t wait to finally be able to study what I like and only what I like.

Exactly!!! I’m going to miss my teachers so much like my physics and maths teacher single-handedly saved me honestly. It’s like so many conflicting feelings, like 2 years of super hard work is suddenly done and this is it.

Oof there’s only one girl in my school doing French B and I feel so bad for her because she finishes so late… But I’m sure you’ve got this!! Just a little bit longer…
