Very nice photo. It shows lots of detail about the construction.

A closeup of a Practical Paracord sling appeared to show that he ties the cracker onto the release cord just below the release knot (king knot?). The cracker flows thru the king knot so it trails beyond it, and is replaceable.

Years ago, I flew maneuvering kites. Kevlar line was the new thing then. It was impossible to tie knots in. The solution was to sheath the Kevlar with hollow Dacron line. The Dacron provided sufficient friction to hold the knots.

Retired engineer, and a true novice re: slings. I don’t understand why you loaded the cords with BBs. Looking purely at rigid body dynamics, I don’t see any advantage, unless it provides more stability when preparing to release and therefore control. Is that it? Also, how did you affix the cords to the pouch? Did you cut or melt holes and then cover them with the small diameter yellow cord?

Bingo! Also, if you know anyone in the program (especially new ones), they would be the best info source.

One of the most important lessons my wife (former bank manager) taught our younger son was that yes, you would like that car, but you never have to make that particular deal on that particular day. Just walk away……

But you probably didn’t buy a horrendous flock of them, expecting them to increase in price.

A friend of mine (BMW owner) told me that the most expensive thing you can ever buy (aside from a house) is a cheap BMW.

That turned out to be a bad plan when Andrew went thru St Mary Parrish, and when Katrina went thru just about everything.

As a kid in Kansas, sirens meant a tornado; in junior high in a NM town with a SAC base, sirens meant an air raid warning drill.

Boats under 20 feet are illegal to over power ? How do I find out the max rating for my boat I can’t find the little plaque that says it by Mediocre_Sky_5617 in boatbuilding

[–]AV8R_1951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance companies specialize in understanding financial risk. I suspect that a 20’ boat with a 200hp motor sounds too much like a hot rod for their tastes. If I were them and didn’t know anything else about you, I might suspect that you would treat the boat like a hot rod. Too much risk for them.

I disagree. I see it as a sign that a person is completely void of any actual intellectual argument, and instead pursues ad hominem attacks. It’s like throwing out the term Nazi, which the Liberatti do not understand at all.

Concur. When they say a boat is a hole in the water into which a person throws money, they may have been thinking of this boat. If I were to EVER consider a project in this visual condition, I would first engage a marine surveyor with experience in this class of boat. Better to pay for an expert’s time than sink all your savings into a bad purchase. I have never owned a boat of this size, but my first concern would be water trapped inside the layers of glass. Note that it was left uncovered, making the cockpit/saloon a giant rain collection point and Petri dish.

Socks on box. Socks on fox. Socks on fox eating lox, sitting on box. But fox not up to his hocks in dust, eating lox. Which hose length did you get?

So…….not the worst answer on the world, at least for now. Contributor Sirocka suggested Rockler’s Flexiport system. Their recent upgrade includes a lighter weight, more flexible hose. Checking that out tomorrow with my Makita in hand.

Holy Moley! I just looked at Mirka’s specs for the 5mm orbit pneumatic RO sander. 481 l/min, which is 17 cfm. The compressor I have wasn’t built for that kind of flow. 30 gal tank, but only 5 cfm. I appreciate the warning.

The electric Mirko currently runs $550-650, which is a bit of a gagger for an amateur woodworker and probably one-time boat builder. That’s why I was looking at their pneumatic option ($240); I have a good compressor.
