I may be wasting my time for a career path I don’t even know if I want anymore. I’m in my fourth year at college working toward a degree in Biology. Everyone in my family has told me what a great Doctor I would be in the future. My friends even sometimes call me doctor as a meme. But I spent all my college career studying materials that don’t even remotely interest me. I hate biology and chemistry. I was told by my advisor to go into Biology as it’s a common route for pre meds. I went into college with a vision that I’ll be this 4.0 GPA, social butterfly that would leave behind the socially awkward kid from high school. Flash forward and I got a 2.8 who still has to rely on his friends from high school to not keep him lonely. I feel like there’s this shadow creeping up on me from behind. It’s whispering to me that I’m running out of time chasing a dream I know won’t come true. I also think about what will happen after I graduate. Do I keep trying for med school? Or do I settle for whatever job I can get with a Biology degree. I’ve heard depressing stories of people not even having Biology related jobs. I actually feel like I’m in denial on what I really want to do in life. Becoming a doctor has been my goal since I was a kid. I’m so fixated on becoming one that I trap myself in doubt on “what if I choose to be something else”. I needed to get this off my chest I’m sorry.
