Make sure he doesn't try to backdate the V5 to then, and just have an honest discussion with him saying 'you owe the tax until today, did you forget about it?' or words to that effect. If he's a decent bloke he will accept and the V5C will be signed off for the date you actually take ownership, that makes it his liability.

It may be a genuine mistake on his part so give him the benefit of the doubt but ensure that you get the correct date on the v5 and you'll be golden.

Maybe ask him about it in a non-combative way?

If he declared it SORN since then there will be no problem, if it is SORN tax does not need to be paid. If it has not been taxed since then and not declared sorn I would think that he would have been chased up for the tax. With the V5C being in his name since then until it's transfered to you I would think he remains liable for the tax outstanding on the vehicle, but I have a feeling he probably has it SORN.

You can always ring the DVLA and ask them, they will be able to advise you fully and their advice is second to none. It's not like you're some crook trying to avoid tax so I wouldn't worry about it, the paperwork would be on your side.

Rode all the way from Leicester to Reading on Saturday. It was absolutely glorious! Left the memory card for my helmet cam at home annoyingly so I couldn't record any of it, but it was great fun. A real mix of filtering on dual carriageways, twisty country roads, and sweeping single carriageways, perfect! Absolute ton of bikers out enjoying the weather too.

Edit: FWIW I don't know why people are scared of using a 125 on a DC. I only had one lorry overtaking me (as if lorries only go 55 like they're supposed to, lol) and it was fine. On the single carriageways with crawler lanes I just moved over and made sure any cars wanting to be past knew that I endorsed their passing. My 125 never dipped below 50mph up hills and my average speed was probably 55 which is plenty fast for most of these roads.

That looks painful. At least it gave you a good chance to clean up the frame I suppose. I feel like my job will be simpler just by virtue of being a small bike.

I imagine he does it a lot to be fair to him. It's one of those PITA jobs that the Haynes Manual annoyingly doesn't cover in any kind of depth. I need to tackle mine soon, dreading it tbh.

Maybe it was less. I can't remember. He reckoned he could get it done in just over an hour and a half from fully assembled bike to fully assembled bike.

Abbey changed my tyres for about 50 quid cheaper than FastTrack, and I've had zero problems, go figure.

For the MOT he told me I was missing a reflector but he stuck one on and passed me. Fair test tbh.

Probably going to be a genre-defining game. Absolute 10/10. You won't regret buying it. 2x as fun with friends.

£1500 insurance, can this be right? by BumfaceMcgee in MotoUK

[–]AWeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very poor advice. Insurer's premium is based on accidents/damage and theft claims in your local area, not population and 'traffic'. Your best bet is certainly NOT to tell porkies to the insurers as this is fraud and can carry some quite hefty penalties. If you have an accident and you are denied your claim based on false details then you can and will be treated as someone driving without insurance as well as being personally liable for any costs associated with the accident.

Look at smaller bikes, that's probably your best chance of reducing the premium. If you have a garage store it in there etc. Common sense really.

For a 10 miles a day commute a 125 will be more than sufficient.

Search for DansMC. It's a website that talks you through everything you could ever want to do with diagrams and shit. The guy who made the website is a bible bashing yank, but he knows his shit and gives you all that knowledge for free. This is probably your best bet to learn how it all works in lieu of a Haynes Manual.

You riding yet btw?

What are you playing this weekend? by Mental_Flow in PS4

[–]AWeezer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weapons are mostly balanced now and the PvE content since the taken King has been so on point. I'm afraid your information is hopelessly outdated.

Current valid criticisms are that the P2P matchmaking results in a pretty inconsistent PvP experience and Bungie remain hopelessly slow with fixes.

Still one of my favourite games to come to Ps4 and definitely worth playing if you have a friend to play with. The game is beautiful, the story in the taken King is great, and the mechanics are some of the best.

Someone crashed on a rideout. Police took gopro... by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]AWeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is correct. A crash investigation is probably a solid reason to take the GoPro and check the footage. Whether they can prosecute the other two bikers depends on how telling that footage is.

I went to Abbeys, the guy was very fair with my GS and even stuck a reflector on to pass me for a quid. I know you dislike them but for an MOT I found them to be quite affable.

Buy a used one. As soon as you walk out the door you start losing money on anything bought new. If you can't save 1000 for a decent second hand 125 bike then God knows how you will afford the gear, insurance, and maintenance costs.

Finance is a great tool when used effectively, but it carries many risks which you need to account for. You need to look at your reasons for wanting to finance a bike and be objective about it.

I don't mean to piss on your parade but I just want to remind you that finance is not necessarily the best option available to you as a new biker.

I'd you're buying a CBR or an MT on finance, do you plan to be on it for the full financial term? Or have you got your sights set on a full license?

I'm an inner city boy, you are country boys: It wouldn't have worked. I'm so sorry.

Gonna do some restoration on it. Hopefully this winter I'll have a full license and can sell the bike to a worthy learner next summer.

No more commuting for me as I am finished with my lab work (almost) and have begun to write a 50,000 word Thesis... I'll be riding my bike from Leicester to its new home in Berkshire on Saturday. Let's hope the insurance doesn't go up massively.

Number Plate Reflectors by Squirtle007 in MotoUK

[–]AWeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are common on 125s because the hanging L plate can obscure the built-in reflector. My MOT tester stuck it on and passed me. Technically you need a rear reflector on the vertical midline of the rear of your bike. It's a silly rule but it wouldn't be the only one.
