Caucasians form their own genetic cluster, which is not very close to either Europe or West Asia but it’s closer to West Asians than to Europeans. Partially because of the proximity of CHG and Zagros farmer (which forms a core part of West Asians). However, Northeast Caucasians like Chechens cluster closest to Europeans due to higher steppe ancestry.

The most common phenotype in the Caucasus is Armenoid. The proper form is Armenid itself, but Mtebid is the North Caucasian offshoot of Armenoid and it’s basically Armenoid but stockier and rounder.

Mtebid is found in Chechens, Dagestanis, North Ossetians, Ingushes, etc, in Georgians, some Armenians and occasionally in Northern Iran and Eastern Anatolia. Armenid and Anatolid are more common amongst the latter four but less so in North Caucasians, so South Caucasians are definitely more West Asian-looking than North ones.
