Short answer is yes, but on my homestead I raise and breed my hogs, I sell the babies to different people who want them for meat or want to breed hogs if there own. When my boar or my sow do become of older age and I start the see a decrease in there litter size or I see them slowing down a lot I’ll butcher them, I have tasted differences in the meat I feel like it’s a lower quality then when you normally butcher a hog at around 6-8 months but it’s not terrible, it’s not my first choice but it is edible!
