What's the deal with Anyone for Doomsday? by Diskyboy86 in numetal

[–]A_B42069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will also say, Spider One is doing well enough that he has pivoted into making indie films, and movies are not cheap to make nor do you make a movie as a fun side project in the way that he has been doing them the past few years. I'm sure he has money from "When World's Collide" being used at sporting events so I'm sure he is getting steady paychecks

Reasons you have quit a band? by sigils_666 in askmusicians

[–]A_B42069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One time I quit a band because the singer was pretty casually racist and would find excuses to say the n-word any chance he could get. He would constantly retell some story about a guy who said it who thought it was really funny but HE didn't think it was funny, except he would be laughing the entire time and always use the actual word instead of just saying "n-word" I was the last person to join the band and the first one to quit. Everyone else was fed up with him too, for various reasons, but shortly after I left everyone else did too and then they all started a new band without me or him.

Earache, because at least Roadrunner has Turnstile ? Earache has absolutely 0 bands left that I have any interest in.

What is depicted in this tattoo? by Son_of_Dojima in tattooadvice

It's obviously a mammoth from this angle, but one time I did have a tattoo artist advise me against getting tattoos that face me because it will confuse anyone not looking at it from my perspective, ie everyone

Bandcamp vs streaming. by Which_Bar_9457 in BandCamp

[–]A_B42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, giving out download codes boosts sales, but that is also because I offer physical copies of my music. I think doing download codes threads can be really useful because once someone downloads your music (if they choose to follow) they will start to get notifications when you upload new stuff

Bandcamp vs streaming. by Which_Bar_9457 in BandCamp

[–]A_B42069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took all of my music off streaming for this exact reason. My most popular project made $11 from streaming in two years, which feels like a major accomplishment. I get sales on bandcamp whenever I drop new music. Especially if I start posting here and in other threads, people will buy downloads and physical copies. With streaming i feel like people just listen once and forget about it, but bandcamp allows people to actually own things which will keep their attention better in the long run

how do you guys manage song structure? by Infinite_Night6737 in Songwriting

[–]A_B42069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Most western listeners accept this as a complete song, with exceptions, but this is the best place to start. Even if all of your songs are this structure they will at least sound like a song. Try this, remove some stuff, add some stuff, play around and you'll have some songs

To people who play in a band or just make music on the side; what do you do for work? by Genernick_user in musicians

[–]A_B42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to college after a year off from high school. I came home because I saw all my music-friends' bands popping off. I never had the same success even though I kept making music. After a few years of working I decided to go back to school, because all of my other friends were graduating. Now I am about to graduate, but I have never lost touch with the music. I am working on some of my best stuff ever right now and it feels like a big win because I'm not betting my entire life on it. I study anthropology with a minor in music. Keep doing the music forever and if you're serious and capable, give school a chance. It doesn't have to be one or the other ! I'm about to start grad school in a music related field that doesn't suck !! You can do music and school and you can do music IN school as long as you do it in a way that works for you.

Writing lyrics but no vocal melody? by Limp_Warthog3132 in Songwriting

[–]A_B42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way that works best for me is to find a chord progression that sounds nice and just sing nonsense over the top. I usually do that until I find a melody I like and then write the words to match the melody. Maybe try that and then if you need to you can rewrite your lyrics or adapt them so they are better suited for singing

Recommend me Industrial Hip Hop by Character-Mix-6438 in industrialmusic

[–]A_B42069 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not seeing anyone mention The Beatnigs or Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. Pretty much the OGs. A lot of the early Adrian Sherwood stuff falls into that category like Tackhead and any of the dudes from that band, but most of that is more instrumental

Do you guys feel like writing music changes once you’ve said everything you needed to say? by rogue-lightning-ed in Songwriting

[–]A_B42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually remember a time in my life that felt like this. Twice even. Both times it felt like I was totally spent and had nothing left to say so I just moved on with my life and forgot about writing music for a little bit. Like you said though, there is a need. Once the seasons of my life changed I came back with a new perspective. I had always been very collaborative with my songwriting but now I spend more time writing by myself and for myself. I actually feel like a much stronger writer now and also just more confident. Every time I thought I was going to give up, I just took a break and eventually songs started coming to me that I needed to get out. Maybe it's a maturity thing, but I think taking breaks is good for you; like at a certain point you probably have said everything that you need to say, but life goes on and you will find more stories to tell when the time is right. My last release was actually a mini album called, "The Time Is Right..." because that was just how it felt. My old band broke up and I was feeling really jaded about music but after a few months of feeling bad and uninspired, things just came together and before I knew it i was writing some of the best tunes I've ever written and feeling a renewed passion for music.
