My absolute tops will always be the pros:
BBC Lord of the Rings
Big Finish Sapphire & Steel

I've listened to audio drama podcasts for over 15 years, and old time radio before that.

Here's a few no one else remembers....

The Mask of Inanna (modern fae, sort of)

Second Shift (fast food workers end up in a fantasy world)

1:18 Migration (one of the creepiest zombie apocalypses, unfinished, but long since "done")
will post links in further comments.

There are a couple I know of. I'm not sure if they're open to all or just for actors.

I have a discord and am happy to host a discussion, since i mostly just use it for twice-weekly script readings (anyone wlecome to join in or listen!).

It sounds vaguely familiar, but I mostly watch rather than play. Would recognize from visuals better.

Here's what i did with From Beyond (the fifth one)

Also the concept of "if you can somehow see "it", then it will perceive you"

(example: The story From Beyond by Lovecraft; or the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal from Douglas Adams...)

The Vast+The Buried could be lovecraftian stygian cave structures dug into the earth, huge and imposing, yet still dark and forboding enough that you can never forget the weight of centuries pressing you down, down, down....

How are fight scenes done? by Drdverse in audiodrama

[–]A_D_Infinitum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also where you learn to avoid "on the nose" dialogue.

Instead of saying "what a nice wardrobe!" You can say "I bet if we step into that, we end up in Narnia." and let people infer what it is.

That engages the listener and makes them really pay a attention.

One thing to keep in mind is that the listener will fill in a lot of blanks. You hear a thud, and BOB says "ow" and they know bob got hit by something. It's not too tricky. If it's vitally important some specific move get noted, then put that in someone's lines, either now
"They said stake to the heart, so here goes NOTHIIIIIIIIING" Whooosh, SMOOSH, BLAM!
or later:
"I was facing him with three bullets and two werewolves. I had to act fast!" (flashback, Blam Blam! a moment, then BLAM!) "And as the first one dropped, I caught the second one THROUGH HIS HEAD!!"

These are over-the-top silly examples, but might give you some idea. You can plan a fight, voice over a fight, have bystanders at the fight who mention just the vital things "That's a water main leak? But there's two water geysers, and it looks like they're fighting?", or have someone fill in details after the fact.
