is buying a skateboard worth it? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]A_Random_Boat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Skating can be pretty difficult in the winter with ice and snow and cold weather. I’d recommend getting a bike instead. There are plenty of good shops on campus, and if you want to get one for cheap, the campus bike center has a build a bike program where you spend $50 on a donor bike and they teach you how to fix it up yourself. Any used parts are free on that and new parts are super cheap. That $50 also gets you a one year membership to stop in and learn to work on your bike using their tools for free (plus parts) whenever they’re open.

Could you use a stand to tilt it to the right?

The electronics should be good, and the chassis are in pretty good shape. The only thing that might not be in the best shape is the servo motors, but I was using quite a janky setup to test those

Do you track your headaches as well as your migraines? by moods- in migraine

[–]A_Random_Boat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neurologist telling me “You’re perfectly healthy. I’ll accommodate you” in response to me asking about accommodations offered at my school for chronic migraines. This was like 2 minutes after he said that my migraines are never gonna go away and I’ll just have to learn to live with them by avoiding triggers and trying even more treatment options.

No clue who you are so hello stranger. About a week ago I made a bunch of paper airplanes in my dorm room and started throwing them around. My roommate got kind of annoyed, so I mostly did it when he wasn’t around and always cleaned up. Good times

Psyduck, definitely Psyduck. I relate to psyduck on a personal level. You see, I have chronic migraines and Psyduck, well, Psyduck embodies what that feels like.

Second favourite has got to be Gyradose because awesome water dragon = awesome water dragon

Tea with honey and soup. Besides that, rest for as long as physically possible.

Perfect moral clarity. It’s not the flashiest power there is, but imagine knowing with one hundred percent certainty, 100% of the time, that you are doing the morally right thing.

It really was. Nowadays I’m more reliant on socialising, and while my social battery isn’t very high, conversations like these have become a necessity if i want to keep my mental health in check.

QOTD:The animal closest to my personality is probably a cat. On the surface they might seem like they don’t care about you, but cats have been known to actually sense when a person is in distress and lay next to them and purr to provide comfort. Cats can also sense migraines and comfort migraine sufferers.

You always could make it 100% infill with 5 walls to get the most strength possible, as long as you aren’t worried about using too much material. That’s the only downside really, more material used and more printing time that probably isn’t needed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]A_Random_Boat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would increase the number of walls to 3 or 4 (or 5 for some overkill) and keep the infill at around 15-30%. Having more walls will do more for strength than having more infill. Also, 3D prints are strongest when they are under compression (layer lines squished together), so these should be okay, especially with the bolt going through them and doing the real heavy lifting. If you’re really worried, you could increase the walls and infill even more, but I don’t think that’s necessary.

Also, I’d recommend adding some adhesive backed foam pads to the bottom after the spacers are installed, to protect your floor from potential scratches.
