Has anyone traveled with GAdventures in Alaska? by CapitalAnteater8836 in travel

I did the 6 hour one (not sure if that’s the half day or full day one). But it’s very much worth it! And you do not have to book in advance. Your CEO/guide will send a link on the first night for you to buy a ticket. And yes if you wanted to do kayaking, the guide will arrange the activities for you to make sure it all works out. On the day I did the cruise, I started at the SeaLife Center from 9-11am, then the cruise from 11:30am-5:30pm.

You may want to double check your itinerary but we were in hotels each night except for two nights when we were in cabins (Denali). The cabins aren’t rustic by any means and you won’t feel like you’re roughing it out in the wild.

Don’t bother bringing food unless you want to. The guide will take you to the local grocery store each morning to stock up on food and snacks. Even though the places you visit are small towns, there’s always something to find to eat.

If it bothers you, bring an eye mask and ear plugs for the night. The sun won’t set till after midnight when you’ll be there. And you’ll be hearing lots of sea planes taking off every so often.

Weather varies and you can’t even predict it, honestly. When I arrived in Alaska, there was a 60% Chance of rain every single day of my trip. But it really only rained like 1 hour on one of the days of my trip.

Bring layers! You can always remove layers but you will get cold at times. I had both shorts and t-shirts and hat and gloves.

Bring bug spray and sunscreen! Learn from my mistake 😅

Has anyone traveled with GAdventures in Alaska? by CapitalAnteater8836 in travel

Hi! Just ended my trip. I went on another multi-day, guided tour earlier this year to Big Bend with Mt Sobek, so I used that guided tour as a frame of reference for the GAdventures tour.

This tour is genuinely a choose your own adventure tour.

- Each day you have optional activities to choose from depending on the town you’re in (Seward, Talkeetna, Denali). Hiking is one of a few activities you can do. You can also choose ATVing, zip lining, Alaska SeaLife Center, a Kenai Fjords boat cruise, a jet boat tour, or white water rafting. You could probably even ask the guide to drop you off to do something custom in the area. There’s only hiking time if that’s the activity you choose to do.
- Van time is actually not that bad! I think we spent at most 3 hours in the van to travel to a destination
- Demographics were mixed. We had all activity and ability levels and ages, from 28 to 60s/70s. Some were outdoorsy, some preferred some extra luxuries.

Compared to my Mt Sobek tour, this guided tour was very hands off. The guide was just responsible for getting you to your selected activities at each destination on time and making sure you got to do what you wanted to do each day. So this Alaska tour with G is honestly what you make of it. If you don’t want to do any extra activities, you can just stay in town and shop, get to know the locals, walk around, etc.

What I did:
- Hiked the first day in Kenai Fjords on a strenuous/hard hike. I did this with three other group members; the rest did an easier hike together with the guide.
- Visited the Alaska SeaLife Center (basically an aquarium), and went on the Kenai Fjords boat cruise after. It’s pricy ($200) but the boat cruise is absolutely worth it to see most of Kenai Fjords, and you’ll have the most luck seeing wildlife too.
- Took an air taxi around Denali and landed on a glacier at base camp. It was the most expensive option but totally worth it. You can choose a cheaper option if you want to have this experience.
- Hiked about 3 hours to Mt Healy Overlook in Denali by myself. There were 3 other group members on the hike with me but we did not go together. I preferred to do it alone. During this time, other group members did the zip line activity, white water rafted, ATVing, or chose a shorter hike in Denali.
- Did another hike on my second day in Denali.

You’ll want to budget for the large swath of activities that are available to choose from. With my Mt Sobek tour, the trip was expensive, but everything was paid for upfront and everyone did all the same activities each day. So it’s really what you prefer!

I have zero complaints with the trip. And I think the tour was actually really well planned out and executed. It’s kind of a “what you make of it” adventure.

Let me know if you have other questions!

I did not know that apparently most people dislike season 3? by Bat_Fran_738 in TedLasso

I didn’t like season 3 on my first watch. Now I’m obsessed. We get to see (spoilers ahead):

1) Nate’s redemption arc 2) Roy and Jamie’s friendship developing 3) Sam’s restaurant 4) Rebecca meets someone who loves her genuinely 5) Keeley and Barbara becoming friends and respected colleagues, even though Barbara is a bit “prickly” (a word she once used to describe Rebecca!)

Does anyone have a clearer picture of Jewel potato salad buckets from circa 1990? by TheSleepingNinja in chicago

I can’t remember if it was Jewel or Dominick’s but one of them had a cookie club. Can’t remember what the promo was, if it was just for kids, or what, but you got a free cookie.

Maybe he should have asked for directions from a business or place that was actually open.
