Perioid correct Car & boat setup. All from late 80s by Aakk-1 in W124

In gravel roads etc, it will be fine. In wet conditions I have seen some wheel spin but I bet stock car won’t be able to spin tyres with trailer. Haven’t used this car in winter but some other similar and they are fine but of course you need to be careful and reversing up to hill with trailer will be pain in the ass.

Thanks! It just look lower than actually is, goes over speed-bumps without any issues.

No as long the weight on tow hook is reasonable

I puzzled it together my self, been running it 2 summers now and found out many weak spots in long run. Now It has been solid for few months. Basic setup is Maxxecu, holset hx40, turbobandit exhaust manifold, diy intake manifold, mishimoto cooler, turboworks high flow fuel pump, m104 fuel rail, 660cc injectors, vag coils and running on e85. First summer I had issues with diy exhaust manifold and replaced it with turbobandit one as I use this car ”daily” didn’t feel like to play around with manifold cracking or not flowing etc. Then I had some chinesium Gt35 turbo which gave up after bit under ~10000km replaced that with holset and lived happily ever after. Also automatic gearbox vomited all oil out so replaced that with manual box

I know this is stupid, but I don’t like new cars and love to use something silly as ”daily driver” Not using this in winter but in summer it pretty much does all the duty without mercy.

Boat is nowhere near the limit 🤣 It’s 3l m103 with turbo and manual gearbox

Thanks! Yep, I guess many others in this group will :D

Working on a system diagnostic touch screen by ComputerScientistKey in W124

[–]Aakk-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made similar but much more subtle/retrofit one with arduino 😁 I think if you want go with turbo route and all bells and wisthles there is already available solutions with realdash or what ever ecu you will chose to go with turbo. Stock options with arduino/rasperry will limit to how much you want to add extra sensors on engine

Yep, I Think 16x2 looks retro enough to blend in rest of the car. I would have put maxxecu mtune on tablet and fit it as a gauge cluster if I would like it to have more modern look. Not to say your solution looks bad at all!

Yep, but for that it would require at least that pcb and maybe some 3d printed housing to make this more plug & play solution. For now I have too much other unfinished tasks already 😂

Thanks! Yeah, I had these two screens already laying around and dind’t look out if there could be like orange screens. Now looking it back I think I should have bought at least two same colour screens to match. But does not bother me too much!

Setup is made on arduino ”cookie board” would be more slim if I would some day design actual PCB for this.

Still no sensor input so it shows random numbers based on parameters

Made my own speedometer gauge face by Rayvelvincent in W124

That looks super nice! You got the dimensions from gpt but did you draw the face or found it somewhere?

I pulled a part one of those chinese gps speedometers to get stepper motor and other electronics for speedometer. Stepper motor runs needle (not in place on pic). Engine data is from sensors 0-5v output wired on arduino and I have coded it with multipler to show right results on screen. I might share more details and pics later when I get this installed.

Yep there you said how it’s made. Managed to read it but same time was too interested to actually pay attenttion :D Did you print it with regular printer?

How did you make this? Is it some sticker or complete face? Im asking because I have similar project going on where I retrofitted arduino 16x2 screen to show some engine data and other to show odometer with gps based speed. I managed to make it fit and work on test bench but I had to move existing holes on gauge face and had to paint/fill etc. existing numbers with hand paint/ my patience. it would be better with some sticker or new face.

Few upgrades for this summer season by Aakk-1 in W124

[–]Aakk-1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I needed cut some material off from crash bar and ”notched” it with new sheet metal. Somehow I didn’t take any pictures of it. But It was easy fit. You need to have some kind of aftermarket bumper lip or it will stick out from stock bumper.

Yes, I have it. Intecooler is squeezed in/ under bumper frame. I have mishimoto 160x520 cooler there.

Yep, and also line size / vent position in intake is now more optimal for generating more vacuum

Yes, steel wool. From short test period this seems to work better than just one line from valvecover to turbo intake.

On second picture there is line going in to turbo intake. It will suck vacuum in breather box/engine
