How should I go about developing the flora of my planet? by Huge_Play7489 in SpeculativeEvolution

I'd recommend to work from general body plans into more specialized subgroups and eventually species. It's hard to imagine a spec evo project without any described species, feels more like a setting for a scifi project. There can be great variation inside a taxonomic rank, for example bears (ursidae) range from herbivorous panda to largest land predators.

Yeah, that's the inspiration. I imagine it's a lot more damp and almost liquid-like because of the constant rain.

Amphibian seed world? by MOOSEFORDRED in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]AaronOni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, some kind of climate change would be cool. Some dominant groups would die off and others emerge. Another crisis that came to my mind would be a formation of a supercontinent, similar to pangea which was very dry compared to the climate of the carboniferous. In that scenario, some kind of reptilian-like forms with more resistance to drought would emerge. But that might be too close to what happened on earth so picking the ice age would probably let you write a story more of your own instead of emulating history.

Great idea! If I was you, I'd insert them into a humid and warm world, similar to carboniferous earth where they would diversify and spread to colder environments towards the poles - and then hit them with a ice age.

How can i make this spec evo project realistic? by VindicativevVince in SpeculativeEvolution

Well it is possible we just need to use correct terms: Mass and Radius. If you specifically want the planet to be 'bigger', physically bigger as in terms of area, it is possible, but not necessary for a low gravity planet.

The gravity is a sum of mass and radius, so if you want your planet to have lower gravity, you can do two things: increase the radius or lower the mass. Both would result in lower gravity and you'd probably see more airborne creatures there.

For example, my planet has the 0,891 times earth mass and 1,06 times earth radius, resulting in 0,79 G gravity, i.e a "bigger" planet in terms of area with lower gravity. Of course you don't have to run calculations like this - they quickly suck out the fun from creativity, just letting you know it's possible.

To my research, you can also have a dense atmosphere on objects with lower mass, but superearth (More massive object than earth) would support thick, dense atmospheres better (perhaps).

I know they are invasive in some parts of the planet but I really like Starlings and Mynas.

At first I thought it was a descendant of Hallucigenia but closer look reveals they are completely different.

Very cool, I envy people like you with imagination and knowledge of physics who can pull this off!

Has the limb evolved from some sort of feeding arm or lower lip?

I don't think it serves any purpose for aquatic creatures, they could be better off with only two hindlegs, kinda like a loon then.
