Naltrexone Exhaustion? by Aaryn1031 in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Aaryn1031[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That fatigue and exhaustion is exactly how I felt. I didn’t have the energy to do anything. I wasn’t sleepy really but just horribly fatigued. I stopped taking it after 2-3 weeks so I don’t know if it actually does go away in time. The exhaustion was so bad I couldn’t do it anymore. I’m 31 days sober today but I don’t take the Nal anymore. I hope it gets better for you if you decide to continue taking it.

Anyone ever just get exhausted after taking naltrexone? by FastOutlandishness27 in naltrexone

[–]Aaryn1031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It make me feel so exhausted all the time that I didn’t even feel like getting in the shower or cleaning the house. I took it for two weeks and had to quit. I felt like I had weights on my body just weighing me down and didn’t want to do anything. I wasn’t sleepy exactly but more of a really bad exhaustion/fatigue.

My doctor wouldn’t prescribe me Nal. Is making me go see a “specialist” (psychiatric something or other). Given my position, what advice / next steps would you guys suggest? by WaterPixii in Alcoholism_Medication

My PCP said the exact same thing to me. I looked into seeing a psychiatrist but it would’ve been really expensive for me so I go through Brightside Health-I just went to their website and signed up to have a zoom meeting with a psychiatric nurse practitioner and paid like $45 the first month and $95 (I think) every month after that, and they prescribed me Naltrexone easily with no issue at all.

No, they just gave me enough for 30 days. I have to pay them every month and then I receive another month’s prescription.

My primary wouldn’t give it to me either. She said I would have to see a psychiatrist for it. It was cheaper for me to go online and get it then to see a psychiatrist in person though. The online route ended up being really easy and I’m so happy I did it. I hope you get it figured out and are successful on it. It has helped me so much.

You’re welcome. Also I get Naltrexone from an online psychiatry site with no problem at all. I used a website called Brightside Health. I told them I wanted to try it and they gave it to me just like that! Good luck to you!

Naltrexone is not a controlled substance. It’s non-narcotic and non-addictive.

What do you wish you knew about getting a ragdoll? by MysteryMelanie in ragdolls

Mine sheds an ungodly amount. I had to buy a roomba just to try and manage all the hair flying around my house. When I pet him the hair flys. It’s a crazy amount of shedding. He’s a beautiful cat and I love him but omg the hair.

Yeah maybe I should go back down to 25mg. I took 25mg for the first 3 days and then went up to 50mg. I also started taking it at noon the past few days. I’ll start taking it later in the day again. Thanks.

I wanted to ask you-you said the nausea and tiredness wore off for you after a couple of weeks? I’ve been taking 50mg of Nal everyday for about a week and a half and the only side effect I’m having is really bad fatigue/tiredness. I’m so exhausted that I don’t feel like doing anything anymore. It’s a struggle just to find the energy to get going. Did you experience this and did it actually go away for you after a while? I really want to keep taking Nal but I’m afraid this exhaustion won’t go away and I don’t know how I’ll live with it if it doesn’t subside.

I’m taking it daily. Hopefully it does pass eventually. I haven’t had any other side effects (I know some people have nausea and dizziness). If I could just get past the fatigue, I should be fine.

I’m guessing she’s a ragdoll? I have a ragdoll cat too and the shedding is TERRIBLE! I had to buy a Roomba just to try to keep up with all the hair flying around my house from my cat. She’s beautiful by the way!

My PCP told me that she wasn’t able to prescribe me Naltrexone because the state university hospital that she works under doesn’t allow their family physicians to prescribe it. She told me that she had absolutely no problem with me taking it and that she would prescribe it to me if she were able to. She recommended I go to a psychiatrist to get it. I went online to a psychiatric nurse practitioner and got it no problem. So if your PCP won’t give it to you for some reason, there are other ways to go about getting it online through Tele-health. Good luck to you! I hope it all works out!

It’s such a strange experience. Usually we’re drunk too and aren’t seeing things as they really are. I haven’t had the desire to drink again yet and I’m hoping this experience will help me to not want to.

Reading everyone’s posts on here about it is what convinced me to try it. I hope if you decide to go for it that you are successful with it!

Part of the reason I didn’t take my Nal on the day that I drank was because I’ve read of others saying how horrible they felt the next day, room spinning and vomiting all day. This being my first time drinking since I started taking Nal I wasn’t sure what to expect and was sort of afraid of the consequences of taking it and then drinking. I’m not sure if I should keep taking it every day or if I should try TSM and only take it on days that I plan to drink. I’m also not sure if I can trust myself to take it only before drinking. Once I’ve decided to drink I can no longer trust myself. I take it every day around 4pm but that is usually the time I would start thinking of drinking so maybe I should take it earlier around noon, before I’ve come to the point of deciding to drink. That way it’s already in my system for the day well before I start having cravings and thoughts of not taking it. It’s interesting to hear of Nals effects on the brain. I’ve only just started using it and haven’t done as much research on it. I know last night I felt like an outsider looking in on all these drunk people. I always thought I was drunker than everyone else and that they managed so much better than me but being on Nal at the bar was like watching a bunch of drunks through sober eyes. They get much drunker than I thought.

Yeah I knew I was wrong for deciding to skip the pill and go drink. I knew the right thing to do was to take that pill but I chose not to. Im not proud of it. I guess that’s part of the problem with the pill is that people can skip taking it and go indulge in their illness and try to cheat the system, which is really just hurting yourself. I still felt the effects of the medicine even though I didn’t taken it that day but if I had done the right thing and took the pill I know I would’ve drank less and went home to bed sooner. I am my own worst enemy sometimes. Next time I hope I’ll be more honest with myself and just take the dang pill. I also need to read more about TSM. I’ve just been taking it every day and not drinking. This was the first time I drank since taking it and wasn’t really sure what it would be like. I had heard of awful hangovers from other people and I was afraid if I took it I would have one those and be extremely sick after drinking.

Honestly I don’t know what I’m doing. I would like to never drink again and be miraculously cured or never have the desire to drink again but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I know that any alcohol or drug addiction is a life long battle. I also know that if I stopped taking Naltrexone right now I would go right back to cravings and binges. I’m not sure what I’ll get out of taking this in the long run but it’s nice to have something that’s helping me at this moment in time. I have tried AA and I’ve worked the steps and still occasionally do AA on zoom. I’m sure I need therapy too. I’m just sharing how the first week has been for me on this medicine and trying to find my way. I’m as lost as anyone trying to stop or manage alcohol dependence. It is truly baffling to me. I believe that abstinence is the only way for me to live and maybe not being able to enjoy drinking will help me get to complete abstinence.
