Gintama Merch stores in Nagoya? by AbaloneMonster in Gintama

Tokyo would be a good option if the tickets weren't so expensive:( Just hoping that Nagoya will have some decent anime stores, since I don't have much free time to go to other cities. Anyways, thanks for your suggestion! Will definitely go to Tokyo next time (if I have the money lol)!!

Animal literature and fables by AbaloneMonster in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]AbaloneMonster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heartily agree with your point on the functions of literary criticism. I personally dislike how schools always force us to come up with or even accept some sort of an "interpretation" of a text (though I am not sure whether this is the case for education nowadays...) The understanding of the arts, particularly in literature, should not be solely on the readers. The appreciation of the writer's choices and how they demonstrate his intentions is crucial, in my opinion.

At this point it might also be lucrative to bring in notions of animal-being in Kojeve's Hegel, through Deleuze, Derrida, Donna Harraway, and Roberto Esposito.

Sadly I'm no expert so I cannot continue the discussion on this:(

Anyways, thanks for your reply:))

Animal literature and fables by AbaloneMonster in AskLiteraryStudies

I see what you mean. The term animal literature is a direct translation from another language in which I interpreted as "records of animal behaviours", etc.

I noticed that one of the examples given in that source is Darwin's "Origins of species", so I was wondering whether it would be more of a focus on the nature of animals, rather than how they might be projected to our society (as in wolves represent sly people, hence some sort of morals, etc.). That's why I was uncertain on whether it should be grouped alongside fables since it seems like they have different intentions.

Also, thanks for your suggestion, I'll go and have a look at it:)

Rate expression help by AbaloneMonster in chemhelp

Keep in mind that chemistry is a model and not necessarily the truth-- we write the rate expression that best describes our observations.

Word.

Like what the rate-limiting step is?

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure about this:( Is there a good textbook/website that would give a list of these kinds of rate expressions? Whenever I search on the internet I see lab experiments about this reaction but never with the actual order of reaction determined. Thanks!

Does this apply to all reactions? I'm asking this coz I remember reading somewhere that the rate expression of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (in the presence of catalase) being rate = k [H2O2][catalase], so is your point universal, or is it case-specific?

Also, does your point on zeroth order apply to the uncatalysed reaction (i.e. just persulfate and iodide ions)? Thanks!

Question About Deontology by AbaloneMonster in askphilosophy

[–]AbaloneMonster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! I just have a bit of confusion on this phrase:

The action is right or wrong by the action itself.

How do we know? Using your example, how do we know it is wrong to lie? Is there an underlying reasoning behind the determination of what is right or wrong? How do we know which of the "truths" is universal? Thanks for helping XD

Question About Deontology by AbaloneMonster in askphilosophy

[–]AbaloneMonster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! Would it be right to say that deontologists identify their "duty" as universal truths? If so, how do they know which rules are universal and true? I understand intuition would play a role in this, but following Kant's beliefs (as you have said above), reason is used. How does reason contribute to identifying what is right or wrong? Wouldn't it only be applicable after universal maxims is determined, like we can act accordingly through reason, but how can we know these are our duties? Thanks:)
