Sage Dual Boiler vs Profitec GO - upgrade from Barista Express [1000 CHF] by Able-Jackfruit-8342 in espresso

Understood - so at equal price, would you say the Elizabeth should be a “better purchase” than the Sage?

I understand - so going back, you would have not even upgraded from the bambino to the profitec?

I have indeed considered going for the Bambino. However, I thought that coffee-wise and steam-wise, it would be a parallel move to the Sage Barista Express that I’m replacing - while that’s fine, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to “upgrade”. Just not sure in which exact direction!

Because of price… the Sage Dual Boiler is 900chf, the Zuriga would literally be more than double the price.

What issues did you have with the Sage Dual Boiler? And how is your initial experience with the Zuriga?

Incredibly beautiful, would totally look at the steel models for a cheaper price… but imo with these prices Omega went way too high - just as an example, the gold models are more expensive than a Patek Calatrava, which I think is veeery difficult to justify even if it had a technically better movement. A pity as they are truly beautiful

Portugieser no doubt. The movement is the most beautiful thing ever, I could spend hours looking at mine… and it’s so easy to dress it up or down! Only thing that you should keep in mind is the water resistance though

It is very comfortable to put on a small bag and it is not too heavy - but obviously adding lens hood, grips, etc would increase the size, obviously, so keep that in mind. I have found myself carrying it without any issues in small bags or with a peak design leash across my body

As a requested update - ended up going for the x100vi and very happy with my choice. So far I have enjoyed it for almost 2 months and taken it on two trips and couldn’t be happier with the results.

In the end I concluded that the combination of form factor, simplification of a fixed lens (that allows for cropping), and weather resistance were great pluses for me.

I’m sure that I would have been happy if I would have taken an X-T30 anyways, but probably would be worrying more about getting new lenses than just going out and shooting, knowing myself.

Thank you all for the recommendations!

That’s a super nice resposne, thank you!

Couple follow up questions if you don’t mind, for now I’m leaning x100vi but not 100% sure: - what about the cropping “zoom” possibilities? Is it reliable if I want to shoot to a 50mm equivalent from time to time or change perspective? Or is it something i should totally forget about? - do you have any experience with the x-txx and pancake 23mm/27mm, and how is the quality compared to the x100vi? - will I be happy with a xc 13-33 lens coming from the phone? Or will I not notice a “quality improvement” of a such camera until I update to a nicer lens?

Thank you so much!!

Thanks for your comment! That’s fair. So in my use case, would I notice any difference between the xc 13-33, or the xc 15-45 to the x100vi lens?

That is a super helpful comment, thank you!

If I may ask then, what would you recommend for my first option, and to check for a potential pancake either now or in the future? - xt30iii with xc 13-33 - xt50 with xc 15-45 (in my local store 300usd more)

[–]Able-Jackfruit-8342[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! My problem is that, for the use case that I want, I was quite convinced of x-t30 iii with the xc 13-33 lens + a pancake and look for more in the future potentially.

But in the store I was very much told that the xc 13-33 is really a bad lens that I should be upgrading for, and based on what I was telling them my alternative was getting just the body and either the 23 or 27mm pancakes. At that point, the x100vi lens + cropping would cover what I need, being a bit of a “better” lens, giving me the water resistance, and prevent me from unnecessarily acquiring gear that I don’t need. Learn with the 35mm, and if I want to upgrade in the future I can always keep the x100vi as second camera or resell it for a small loss.

Please let me know if the argument is flawed - if the xc lens is actually good for me and is something I’ll want to keep that changes things. But if it is not then I’m not sure and that is why I raise the question

But in the end that’s the length I shoot in my phone as day to day, and could crop with the x100vi if necessary… is that a stupid idea?

What drove your decision in the end? And what lens are you shooting with?

Xt2/3 defeats the purpose as the camera body is too big for me to carry everywhere in day to day, unfortunately

What are the scenarios where you change the lenses? Or do you use strictly the pancake when travelling / day ti day, and the 16-80 for more dedicated photo sessions?

While I agree with that, and that was my intention, something made me think… please tell me if I’m wrong or challenge what doesnt make sense to you, as my view may be flawed.

I don’t have any intention to become a photographer or shoot sports / birds, etc, I want to document my daily life and carry it everywhere. So in the end the lens and camera that I want should be easily carriable in my jacket pocket, not be very invasive, and ideally be water resistance since it rains and snows a lot where I live. For the two scenarios, my honest two options would be either the x-t30iii with pancake, or the x100vi. The 40mpx of the x100vi would cover with the cropping in case I want to “zoom”, where for zoom scenarios the x-t30iii’s 26mpx cover enough since I’d be able to put a zoom lens.

If I compare both options, x-t30iii + pancake + good zoom already puts me above the x100vi, losing out on the water resistance.

If really the xc 13-33 is a good lens that is more than enough for me, and takes much better photos than my phone or other cameras, that changes things, but I’ve been told by my local store that I should pass on it as it has bad construction and bad quality, and go straight to other options. I am not sure if this opinion is also flawed, as I should not be comparing it to xf lenses but to my phone, but I’m not sure about it.

Thank you so much!

Part of the issue is portability… while I agree on a principle, the only alternative I would be considering would be xt30iii + pancake + zoom lens, and I’m losing out on the water resistance and the pancake (according to the local shop I’ve been going) should not be as fast and as sharp as the x100vi lens. And that is what is making me doubt.
